February 9, 200817 yr Hi and welcome marcy, congrats on your new addition. Your best bet would be to check out the FAQ's, it has heaps of information. http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/faqs/ Treat you budgie with the love, trust and respect it deserves and I doubt it will become a problem biter (they generally reserve that only for 'special occasions' ) Would love to see some pictures of your budgie.
February 9, 200817 yr Hi and welcome to you, your sister and her budgie. Bec gave some great advice... there are some great tips on the forum about how to train your little one. If they are young, you shouldn't have any problems! Enjoy... (and yes, we LOVE pictures too)
February 9, 200817 yr welcome the youngest budgies are the easiest to handle and if they bite is determined by factors of being fearful, their personality, it is said that hens bite more the males...
February 9, 200817 yr Are you serious Elly ? Hens bite more then males ? I never knew that. Hmmmm ... goes to show you about the mood of women. OH OH ... I'm gonna start something with that male chauvanist pig like comment !
February 9, 200817 yr (Laughing out loud) Nick that is what I have heard from the members on this board. I have only had males and YES I have heard hens are mooder too (I can say that since I am female )
February 9, 200817 yr Author thanks everyone for the welcome and the info! Pictures will be up soon I read on a website that I should take the taming process very slow, waiting for the bird to settle in and be able to do its normal activities un afraid, then get it used to having hands in its cage and then slowly take him out does that sound about right? or is it okay to take him out for a little each day? Im not sure which way is the right way
February 9, 200817 yr :ygbudgie: Hello and welcome to the forum Marcy, you have been steered in the right direction. And YES, females do bite HARDER than males, this goes for lovebirds and cockatiels as well. Looking forward to your pictures and click on my signature to see the allowable sizes.

I agree that 'most' budgie females bite harder then males, but I'd have to disagree with you about cockatiels. I thought it would be the same as with budgies, but my poor fingers tell a different story!!! My female tiel Bertie, nibbed softly and then didn't bother, but my male tiel Ernie, was determined to amputate any of my fingers he could reach!!! OUCH. I do however, believe that every tiel/bird is different, and therefor it is impossible to tell who will/won't bite. I guess it's a general 'rule of thumb'
