Posted February 9, 200817 yr I have been keeping a record nearly every day over a year of the conditions in the aviary to get an idea of the best times to breed. Well after nearly a year or records... I can't work it out. The Year Recordes. This is done in a spread sheet with in Dependant monthly and daily records. This is the from sheet with the general readings.
February 9, 200817 yr You have some great data there. - A lot of my right sided brain to process Would rainfal really need to be taken into account when your breeding in captivity?? Assuming that: green = perfect: Red = too hot/too high: blue = too cold/ to low. It looks to me that May gave the best breeding conditions last year. Followed closely by April, October and November. ....... :glare:
February 9, 200817 yr Author Rain fall triggers the basic breeding instincts of the birds. Rain mean grasses will seed and that means food for the chicks. So the birds go straight into breeding mode. Humidity means the eggs don't dry out, but the driest month had one of the highest hatch rate. The records show that 280 eggs were laid in the last 12 months. out of 42 pairs. 142 were in fertile (1/2). 14 where Dead in shell, 15 where dead babies, 74 survived and there were 35 "Other" Other takes in adled, broken and eaten. The spread sheet shows more chicks hatched as I only started taking these records from half way through the year.
February 12, 200817 yr Looks like February through May is the best breeding times based on the data you posted. But I would think that it's best to do where you had the highest hatch/survival rate if different (are these readings from inside or outside the aviary?).
