Hi I paired off 2 lots of birds and they are in breeding cages , The breeding cages are still in the aviary with the others flying around, the hens are popping in and out of the nexting boxes but there just doesnt seem to be anything else happening maybe i need to spice up there life some how.. I did notice today though one of the hens that pair herself off with her boy is now kissing another male through the wire icon9.gif what do i do??? I dont want her breeding with another cock at the moment i want her to breed with her 1st choice..

It's a highly easy mistake to make by keeping the cabinets in the aviary, the breeding pairs should be able to Hear not see other birds, as it can cause too many distractions, let alone being able to come in contact with other birds... How long have you had them in the cabinets? it may take a while for the pair to bond and decidie to go down... sometimes they choose not to at all..

They have been in the cabinets for a couple of weeks now. One pair are right at home in the cabinet but the other pair just dont seem to be too happy being there at all and of course she wants the wrong man too which doesnt help at all. This pair below here were the 1st pair we got and they had the aviary all to them selves so they bonded but theres a another man in the house now..(Laughing out loud)..

They're quite buff birds, to aid them to breed you may need to remove some fluffy feathers from around their vent and preferably remove them form the avairy to some place else

Keeping breeding cabinets in the avairy with access to other birds is most of your problem I am afraid.

I agree with Kaz, they are visually distracted by the other birds. I currently have a makeshift breeding room which takes up about half our storage room (3mtrs x2mtrs) with 8 breeding wire cages. I will build my new aviary which will incorporate a breeding room of 2.8mtrs x 1.5mtrs & a flight of 1.2 wide & 1.8 long. I have ditched my plans for two flights, This is due in April/May.

Put in simpler terms...if this was a human couple trying to make babies in a bedroom with constant knocks on the door and people walking in, or peering in....would that couple be successful ?

Same story with ypur breeding cages in the avairy with the other birds having FREEDOM rubbed in the faces...they can see the bids flying free and they are in jail as far as they are concerned. There can be no focus on the job of breeding as they just want OUT to be with their buddies. Birds climbing over the cages and talkng through the bars....no way would the breeding pair be interested or focused under those circumstances.

I understand what your saying. I wasnt sure wether to move them out or not cos i know they like to be around each other. The only problem is I only have the one aviary at the moment and I have no where to move them into .. what if i was to move them into the house would that work okay or not... the hubby might not be too happy though.. (Laughing out loud)..

I pick up our 16 aviaries next week thenit will take another couple of weeks till we can put them up plus we want to concrete the floor first before we put the aviaries up.

I agree with the others you wont have much success with the cabinets in an aviary, but it would be wise to have the cabinets in an enclosed area, otherwise you might loose birds if they escape from the cages while feeding or in other ways. Your birds look really nice good luck with them.
