Posted January 30, 200520 yr I was wondering if it would be a good idea to have a special section for a list of essential items for a budgie first aid kit? Particularly things that a new owner may already have in the house and can use in an emergency? Things like cornflour which Adam said could be used to stem bleeding?etc. Julie
January 30, 200520 yr that sounds like a good idea. i always have cornflour in. But i for one have no idea really of what to have in for injured budgies!
January 30, 200520 yr Irreclense is a very good thing to have in your kit. It comes in big cans (or tins if your common like me) with an adjustable squirter. Its a sterile saline solution and is really handy for cleaning pets wounds. I have a bit of a zoo here and its worked its magic on the few accidents my animals have had over the years. Especially my bearded dragon (duke), he's a little disabled (he has to think about his front legs working or they dont move) he often grazes his nose when he darts about in his house and it works wonders. It did a great job on my cats ear too when she came home after having a fight. Never had to use it on a bird as yet but its the type of thing that helps clean and heal without you having to physically hold the animal down, with it on the low setting the spray is gentle and doesnt frighten them. It's great on kids too!!! (sorry had to edit due to REALLY bad spelling!) Edited January 30, 200520 yr by sallyc
February 2, 200520 yr If we do end up with some sort of handy list it looks like we may need two-one for stuff you may have in the house at the time and one to build up with the proper things which could come in handy. Julie
February 2, 200520 yr It would be handy to have a kind of "safe list" julie, im lucky, my vet is really good and she'll visit out of hours if i need her to. So far i have been using the moto "safe for a baby safe for an animal" but to have an educated/well informed (however you want to put it) list of appropriate items would be very helpful for emergencies and little mishaps that would save on unnessesary vets bills.
February 3, 200520 yr mines really basic at the mo Cotton wool Cotton buds Salt Vitmin drops mite spray (Just incase) Tweasers Cornflour & Sudurfed (or however its spelt, the antispectic cream they use on babies nappy rash, use it all the time on my dogs n guinne pigs) Claire xXx
February 4, 200520 yr You know it's not the best thing to use human products on pets, dogs in particular since they have a different ph level to us and it could do more harm than good.
February 4, 200520 yr i used to use it on my horses as well and the doves at the stables, (had to sell Duchess and Tyson tho :bluebudgie: ), it really has never been a problem. Claire xXx
