Apparently they wont inspect a wet car...from rain or washing. So until the weather clears and the quarantine mob inspect again we wont know. The longer they hold it the more $$'s we have to pay.

OHHHHhhhh but they were happy for you to rip it apart while it was pouring with rain .... sounds hypocritical to me ;)

I like the sound of the TT or ACA shows - AV has already written the script :)

What a Joke!!!!!

I would write a letter of complaint too- As Av said ACA, today tonight Local Newspaper

Well, Ken told them to hurry up two days ago and yesterday they did. BUT they stiffed us with a huge bill part of which we are certain is a major ripoff. The fees to bring it in and the costs for quarantine services were what was expected but the fees the Asutralian end of the shipping agency has charged us is astronomical. Charged $2,000 extra for "cleaning" plus over $900 to unload it from the shipping container and another over $900 to move it 50 feet along the shipping yard. And various other fees.

We have to go collect her today around lunchtime and hand over another $4,500 plus fees for a permit to drive her home, fuel and a new battery. Never mind the fact we have to rebuild all they made us remove and destroy. One saving grace is she is still well under what she is worth even with the added in costs.

Ken is still reeling in shock over the extra $4,500 though :D

:D GRRrrrrrr!!!! how infuriating!!!

I hope you have a good drive home in her today :D

Bill them for your time when you had to take it apart.... I am dead serious if they want you to do the work then they should pay you! :D

I wish !! I dont believe we have a leg to stand on mate. :D

Yeah but you might feel better if you write up the bill and spend it. I doubt that it will be taken seriously but at the very least you might feel better in doing it. :D

We got back home late afternoon. Looked for awhile like we would have to get it put on a huge truck to bring it home. Fuel was pouring out of a gasket under the carburettor, the hearse was running badly, timing was out, running rich. Ken figured out the leaking fuel stopped while it was running so we took the chance and headed off. Did fine on the trip home...........Ken in front and me in the 59 hearse behind him. I had to help him lane change as the indicators on the 64 hearse is the brake lights flashing ( that will have to be rewired to Australian standards ) ....but when he indicated he was lane changing it just looked like he was braking. A little dangerous, so I stayed behind, moved into the next lane and waved him across.

He said she has plenty of power....a 429 V8 where Morgana ( our 59 ) is a 390 V8.

There is damage to the car...........various damage caused by the hot steamcleaning...the top layer of paint is now dulled and gone. Dents in the grill and rear bumper from shifting and moving work done at the yard it was kept in. The spats over the wheels had been removed and thrown in the back of the car and now with paint scratched and scoured badly. While there we heard stories of cars treated worse than ours, of cars denied access and put through the crusher and destroyed, of cars still there due to huge increased fees that people could not afford to pay for.

Ours should have cost no more than $1500 to $2000 to clear and ended up over $4,500.

We are of the understanding there would be nothing but buck passing to try and pin down who caused the damage and who is ultimately responsible. But I will try. I dont like publicity enough to go to the news but I have won court and legal settlements before with good detective work and well worded letters and complaints. I will seek advice and see how we go from here.

Photos tomorrow as the camera ran out of battery.

I am so sorry to hear about all the damage that has happened to the old girl :( She still looks beautiful

I would have thought the people in customs would have more respect for others property ^_^

Did you get any of the "looks" you thought you might get on the drive home?? :P

It wasnt exactly customs that did the damage...it was the grease monkies employed by the shipping company and how they handled her in the shipping yard. I guess another case of they pay them peanuts and they get monkies ^_^

Looks on the way home ?? YES...for sure. It nearly caused an accident at one point. People staring so much they nearly ran into us from another lane.

Well they are not common over here and they are a matching set being black and white! ^_^ Glad she is home safe, here is hoping with some TLC she will be great!

They are both the only ones in Australia of their type...so pretty rare here :(

The 59 always looks black in photos but is actually midnite blue...kind of deep dark blue when you look straight on and purple when you look along the length of it.

I like the idea we have a dark and a light one too. Kind of ebony and ivory ....yin and yang :P
