July 22, 200817 yr Author Got to go shortly to the port. All information available to us about disassembling the floor section is that it will destroy that part of the car. There is no way to remove it apparently without causing damage. We will see what happens when we get there.
July 23, 200817 yr Author We just got back from the port.....the story is...they found some dirt and dust under one or two of the rollers that feed the coffin into the hearse. So they demanded the floor be removed to visibly see what was there underneath. We showed that there was no way anything could get past the little section where the dirt and dust was but they insisted it would. So they said the floor had to be removed, preferably by us. If they did the work it would cost us a minimum of 2 weeks labour at $65 per hour. If we did the work it would all happen faster....passing the vehicle. The only way to lift the floor was to virtually destroy it. It was put together in 1964 to stay together and not be pulled apart in this way. It was pouring with rain and we were out in the open. We got soaked to the skin over 4 hours....cuts and grazes, knocked off a few knuckles etc. Good thing I took the bandaids as we were bleeding all over the car. We had tools with us just in case and we had to use them all. What did we find under the floor ?????????????????????????????? NOTHING, ZILCH, NADA, ZERO, NIL The fluff and dirt that bugged them so much was like lint in a belly button...thats all there was and could have been vacuumed up in a second. The fluff and dirt was a reason they said they they could refuse entry into Australia and could have forced us to send it back at our cost. Another vehicle there was found to have dead possums in it and cleaning it and passing it for quarantine had taken that car from a $2000 purchase into an additional $10000 in costs just to pass it for entry !! Now the hearse is a wreck from the front seats back and will need rebuilding much sooner than we thought we would have to do anything to her. If she gets passed at next inspection we can bring her home....and thats if she starts or drives after all that time on the ocean in a container. Pictures of our day in the rain..... our first view of the car disassembling the car We did more than that too....we had to remove ALL the floor down to the steel struts and base. BUT is was raining so hard at the end and we were saturated so I didnt get the last photos. and the view out into the rain What a day !! Edited July 23, 200817 yr by KAZ
July 23, 200817 yr That is awful that you had to ruin the car just for a little bit of dust, i hope it will not cost too much for you to get it back to normal again.
July 23, 200817 yr Author It will take quite a bit of work to get it back to normal. By the time we finished with removing the floor it was just steel framing in the back and water was getting in everywhere due to the pouring rain and having to keep the doors open to work on it.
July 23, 200817 yr That makes me cry to see what you had to do to your beautiful old car - and so annoyed that they made you do it for a bit of FLUFFFFFFFF I hope you get her home soon. (((Hugs)))
July 23, 200817 yr Author That makes me cry to see what you had to do to your beautiful old car - and so annoyed that they made you do it for a bit of FLUFFFFFFFF I hope you get her home soon. (((Hugs))) It was very annoying especially since it really didnt need doing as there was nothing under the floor. AND it has now reduced its value from being atotally original car to one that will have to be modified. And now it will take longer to get it nice and licensed and on the road.
July 23, 200817 yr Grrrrrr, how annoying!!! You and I and everyone else here KNEW there would be nothing under the floor, heck, so did they probably... but no, they make you do all that! Biggest warmest hugs Kaz to you and Ken. How disapointing that it has now been de-valued for no reason. On a side note... it does/did look beautiful, especially next to you 'black beauty'.
July 23, 200817 yr Oh Kaz ....... Did that other car come out before yours? This might have been the reason for the UNNEEDED Stripping of the Car ... Grrrrrrr!
July 23, 200817 yr Author Oh Kaz ....... Did that other car come out before yours? This might have been the reason for the UNNEEDED Stripping of the Car ... Grrrrrrr! The one with the dead animals was before ours yes....and maybe they were being just a little more cautious and touchy because of it
July 23, 200817 yr That is what I was thinking too. Cause for them to be so demanding about a little bit of bum fluff is a joke and ( is there anywhere you can read up on the regulations ) as it was uncalled for!
July 23, 200817 yr Author That is what I was thinking too. Cause for them to be so demanding about a little bit of bum fluff is a joke and ( is there anywhere you can read up on the regulations ) as it was uncalled for! They have the power....and as they said they have the power to send the car back to the USA at our expense also
July 23, 200817 yr Thats WA for you,Its a wonder they let any one wear there shoes if they have come in from overseas.
July 23, 200817 yr Author Thats WA for you,Its a wonder they let any one wear there shoes if they have come in from overseas. Funny thing is Macka...we were working unsupervised ( had time to have hidden anything suspect that "could" have been in the car ) and we wore our clothes home that we had used crawling about in the car. Very weird stuff I think we paid the price for the car before ours with the dead squirrels in it. Edited July 23, 200817 yr by KAZ
July 27, 200817 yr So is the big girl close to getting home yet? or are you ready to drive it off the edge of the port after running over the quarantine officer??
July 27, 200817 yr Author So is the big girl close to getting home yet? or are you ready to drive it off the edge of the port after running over the quarantine officer?? Apparently they wont inspect a wet car...from rain or washing. So until the weather clears and the quarantine mob inspect again we wont know. The longer they hold it the more $$$$'s we have to pay.
July 27, 200817 yr You know the only reason they are holding it is to make more money! Hope it stops raining long enough that you can finally get your baby home
July 27, 200817 yr oh boy, it does make sense why because it washes the scents away if they use dogs and such but it is **** on your side for sure especially the money
July 27, 200817 yr When you get the car home,I would get in touch, with one of the 6=30 shows & show them, what they made you do to the car.Kaz. You might get some assistance to get a refund from the customs.
July 27, 200817 yr LOL I can just see it now... death of the herse, tonight we look at how customs officals force a struggling family to dismante their own car while looking for dead animals... how will the family survive and will the herse be able to be restored to it's current glory.....
