July 16, 200817 yr Author Beautiful car Kaz. Bet you cant wait until quarantine has finished with her Yes...getting excited now. When she finally clears customs we will drive the other hearse down to collect her so we will then drive two hearses in procession back home. Should cause a bit of a stir It is a nice car Kaz, how long does it take for cars to get through quarintine? It all depends, Deb. They often have to wash them down once or twice and we get to pay for each time they do that. They inspect all over, run the "drug dogs" over them and sometimes have to Xray the car. Since a hearse has a false floor to hold the coffin, I am assuming they will xray that area. We are hoping for later this week but it has been known to take longer. We then have to pay import duties on it which is a percentage ( like GST ) of its total value, including cost of shipping and insurance. We estimate another $1500 or more. Edited July 16, 200817 yr by KAZ
July 16, 200817 yr WOW!! They do a lot of checking!! Good thing they are protecting our country though :hap: I could just imagine the look on peoples faces as TWO hearses drive along the roads I love watching the classic cars out and about on the weekends
July 16, 200817 yr Author A funny weird thing happened to me recently. I was driving the hearse to my glass supplier and got glass. In the back was the coffin, and a spook we use for display events and what they needed for the hearse article in the magazine. As I turned the corner onto the highway, another car turned into the same road and pulled in behind me travelling in the same direction. It was looking in my rear vision mirror that I noticed a real working hearse was behind me and so was a procession of vehicles in a funeral procession. There was me and my 59 caddie hearse, complete with spook coffin and a load of glass, another hearse and coffin behind me, and all the cars that were following both hearses !!! I thought to myself...this is not good :hap: So I pulled the spook down and hid him on the floor with one hand, and moved into another lane on the highway to get out of their way. Then the other hearse also changed lanes and moved in behind me again. I changed lanes again and every time I did, so did the other hearse. I tried my best to get out of their way, but everywhere I went so did the other hearse and its long row of cars following it on the way to a real funeral. This went on for at least 5 kms before they veered off onto the freeway to go to the cemetary. If it wasn't so serious I would have cracked up laughing. Looked like something on FUNNIEST HOME VIDEOS
July 16, 200817 yr At least they didnt keep following you, it would have been a quick rush to organise sandwiches back at your house!!

July 22, 200817 yr Author We have heard from the port about the hearse. They have found some soil/ sand/ dirt or whatever under the falsefloor in the back of the hearse ( OH !! Hope it isnt anyone's ashes ) Anyway...we have been asked to go down there tomorrow to help and advise how to safely remove the floor for inspection so that quarantine are happy with what they do or dont find in there. They said that the car is so nice that they dont want to ruin it by trying to disassemble the wrong way. So, this is the only thing holding up the process and then the car is released to us. Maybe Thursday. Tomorrow we go down and pull the old girl slightly apart.....hope her dignity doesnt suffer too much as she hasnt been disassembled since she was put together in 1964 !!
