Posted February 2, 200817 yr i dont know any better way to put this but... Bing has been picking at his bum with his beak... i know that sounds wierd but he is preening around the area... he has got dirty brown feathers under there because of the stress of coming home but i just dont want him to get ill because he is eating his dropping... also hes rustling his feathers about every 45 seconds or so constantly and preening like theres no tommorow... but he has percked up since he came home and is exploring places in his cage, like his swing perch he likes that alot now but unfortuanatly he hasnt touched any of his toys to my knowledge... oh and if they make like a puff sound like a fart is that good or bad? thanks for listening to all my bickering
February 2, 200817 yr Sounds like normal behaviour of a bird andrew They love to preen! and picking a poopy bum is his way of cleaning up Perhaps If his bum is dirty you should worm him? If you have no wormer and you're ever in my area, just pop in and i'll give him some for you Other than the poopy bum all vitals okay ?
February 2, 200817 yr Author yeh other than that hes fine although ive heard him sneeze a few times but hes really starting to explore but he still doesnt really pay much attention to me nor have i seen him eat from his seed bowl or water bowl but other than that everything is good
February 2, 200817 yr Budgies eat their own droppings. It is a way from them to get potassium. So long as their food isn't contaminated they will be fine eating it.
February 2, 200817 yr Blow on the seeds and you will see empty husks this indicates he is in fact eating as for water it may take several months before you see him actually drink as they don't need much water. The sneezing I responded too in the other post you left. As long as the poop is not watery, is white with the black or brown dropping in the middle (sometimes green if just given veggies), but if green all the time is not normal, and it is not sticking or goey on his butt he is okay. Budgies have oil glands so when they preen they are also not only cleaning themselves but distributing the oil on their bodies. It helps their feather stay waterproof to a point, clean, condition etc..
