Posted January 30, 200817 yr hi, i have always been needing to ask this question but it keeps slipping my mind... how many meals do budgies have a day? 1?? 2?? and what time do you personally feed your budgies??? i know that they should have access to seed all day and clean fresh water thanks
January 30, 200817 yr They should have new seed daily, and any fresh sliced up vegies, cooked mashed egg, etc that you are going to give them. Budgies mostly eat in the morning and in the evening....your breakfast time and your teatime. So if you are giving them fresh food like vegies, that would be the time to add those
January 30, 200817 yr Author okay so should i give them 2 serves of veges and fruit etc each day (morning and evening) or only one?

January 30, 200817 yr I change my guys seed in the morning (2 tsp per budgie), and at that time i also give them a bowl of a salad i've started making for the birds (see Seven Layer Salad). I take the veggies out later in the day, and sometimes that's it for the day, and other times i'll give them something else on their playgym in the evening. Edited January 30, 200817 yr by Bea
January 30, 200817 yr Once a day but make sure it's enough for the whole day. I suggest you change the water daily or if it's really hot twice a day is what I do.
February 9, 200817 yr Hi All, New member just joined and have the following followup questions on this topic: 1) What is the best preferred time to serve fresh food (vegetables and greens), whether morning or evening? 2) Whether all the vegetables and greens can be served raw or we need to cook before serving? 3) What all vegetables, greens and fruits that can be served 4) Also when we serve fresh foods, whether we should also serve seed mix together or only one at a time, since I have seen when we have both fresh food and seed mix, my birds usually prefer seeds over fresh food. 5) Is it necessary that everyday birds feed should have smashed hard boiled egg with egg shell along with fresh food and seed mix or once in a week is okay, what is the best recommended for all type of birds (i.e. young, breeding and hens feeding babies) Thanks for your time and awaiting to see all of your responses. February 9, 200817 yr 1) What is the best preferred time to serve fresh food (vegetables and greens), whether morning or evening? I would feed the vegetables in the afternoon while it is cooling. This will give a better chance for the birds to eat before the food goes off 2) Whether all the vegetables and greens can be served raw or we need to cook before serving? raw is always better 3) What all vegetables, greens and fruits that can be served I serve carrots, celery, mung bean sprouted, snow peas sprouted, corn, oranges, aleo vera, spinach, gum leaves 4) Also when we serve fresh foods, whether we should also serve seed mix together or only one at a time, since I have seen when we have both fresh food and seed mix, my birds usually prefer seeds over fresh food. birds will eat what they are used to. It might take time for them to adjust. I always have seed available all the times. 5) Is it necessary that everyday birds feed should have smashed hard boiled egg with egg shell along with fresh food and seed mix or once in a week is okay, what is the best recommended for all type of birds (i.e. young, breeding and hens feeding babies) Egg food or food high in protein is essential for growing chicks and bird going through moult. I feed my breeding pairs on a high protein soft food every day that they are breeding. I also feed the chicks up till they are 6 months old.
February 10, 200817 yr Thanks Daz, need some more info. 1) What is the best preferred time to serve fresh food (vegetables and greens),whether morning or evening? I would feed the vegetables in the afternoon while it is cooling. This will give a better chance for the birds to eat before the food goes off So it should be around 16:00 or 17:00 hrs and some where read that we should clean the all left out fresh food within 4 hrs, is this true? 3) What all vegetables, greens and fruits that can be served I serve carrots, celery, mung bean sprouted, snow peas sprouted, corn, oranges, aleo vera, spinach, gum leaves Any specific aloe vera type you recommened, if so picture of the same will be helpful. How we have to serve this, it produces some gel sort of liquid right. Whether everyday we have to serve as salad consisting of few veggies and fruits or one type of veggie/fruit? Also whether we can serve following: Greens - amaranth, cabbage leaf, cauliflower leaf, coriander leaf, mint, raddish leaf and curry leaves Vegetables - onion, tomato, beetroot, raddish, ginger and cucumber Fruits - grapes, guava, bannana and sapota 5) Is it necessary that everyday birds feed should have smashed hard boiled egg withegg shell along with fresh food and seed mix or once in a week is okay, what is the best recommended for all type of birds (i.e. young, breeding and hens feeding babies) Egg food or food high in protein is essential for growing chicks and bird going through moult. I have never feed Coco egg before - so do you just hard boil and smash it with the shell on or off?
February 11, 200817 yr With Eggs it's best to boil for 20 minutes and then let cool slowly. I boil the noght before and let it cool before going in the fridge for the next day. Put the whole egg including shell in a blender with some carrot and spinach. Blend it up and add some bread crumbs or Budgie Starter to make a crumble. That should feed 12 breeding cages. Karthik if you click on my signature, it will take you to my web site where you can read my management. The alow vera can be made into a drink. Add 115 gram to a 1000 ml water. Leave for 24 hours. Take half and dilute with 500ml water. This can be feed straight to the birds. If you leave the skin on, it will be a natural wormer. Top up the remaining 500ml in the fridge with 500ml of water. You can do this each day for 14 days. Or you can slice a leave long ways and toss it into the flights. The birds will eat most of it. Once a week is more than enough. Here is an article I did on it. Natural Conditioning.

Cheers for that, I will try tonight. I only have one lonesome little baby budgie, do you think the mix will last for a couple of days in the fridge if I use all very fresh ingredients and store well?
