January 29, 200817 yr No bad impact... I don't find birds to "fret" when egg or nestbox are removed, she will jsut pass remaining eggs onto the cage floor
January 29, 200817 yr Thought I would start a new topic specific for Attikie's first egg on proposition that Aristotle is too young (5mths) to raise the young, and my in-experience Will this have a bad impact on Attikie? As an experienced breeder I would say he is too young. You will get varied answers on here, but that must be weighed up against the knowledge and expereince attributed to each member who is advising you. Some people just get gooey over babies and eggs and do not look ahead for true pitfalls and things going wrong unless they have been through all that can happen. Would you like to re do this topic as a POLL for your answers ? Edited January 29, 200817 yr by KAZ
January 29, 200817 yr Author please that would be great. On your experience, I am understanding that you would advise me to remove the nest box?
January 29, 200817 yr please that would be great. On your experience, I am understanding that you would advise me to remove the nest box? You have jumped in a little too quick in your excitement for breeding and started with a budgie too young to complete the raising of babies. Not a well thought out plan. Perhaps just lacking in education about how it all works. If you want babies with that hen and now you must try her with an older cock. Eggs are not anything until incubated so smashing the eggs and removing the nestbox will put paid to the wrong set of circumstances developing from here on. She may well lay up to two more eggs from the perch but then she will stop. Make sure you have no food dishes she would see as a place to lay eggs and the egglaying cycle will stop after a couple more laid from the perch. I cannot change your topic to a poll now. January 29, 200817 yr Author Okay thanks all, I will remove the nest box when I get home tonight. My understanding now, is that it will be okay to re-introduce the nest box when Aristotle is 12mths? When I put in the nest box, I just assumed the boy was too young and nothing would happen until he was capable, OOPS.... (She definately would beat him up for not tending too her ) Thanks again

Its like giving the pill to a 9 year old.
January 29, 200817 yr I agree wait until at least 12 months old. Although budgies are sexually ready at that age they are not mature enough & physically ready to raise young as it takes a lot out of them .
