yes a recessive pied male can be split to opaline

If both birds are blue based the only way to get yellow pins is with the YF gene

well they did start laying very quickly didn't they??? who knows Just messing with ya dmcminn I am sure they have the YF gene...

There was no hanky panky. They were a couple for a long time, so no chance of being another Daddy as far as I can see.

 

If you look at the pics, you can see that Cheese is a Yellow faced type II blue recesive pied, so the yellow faced gene going through them is not that strange.

Daily update on the newly feathering friends.

 

Milly and Humphrey are rebuilding their strength to return to the aviary. It is very sad that humphrey will not have a legacy.

 

 

Sebby and Cheese are feeding their youngsters well. The eldest 2 are starting to feather up. There is a lot of yellow on the eldest, and maybe a small bit on the next eldest. Judge for yourself.

 

 

Angel and hugo should have little ones any day now. At the moment, they are fostering the youngest of Sebby and Cheese, who was born in the nestbox of milly and Humphrey. What a little journeyman.

 

 

Tralia is being a very good mum, sitting on her eggs. Nibbler meanwhile is looking for a way to get himself entered as a green faced blue budgie in a show. Damn calcium perches.

Great photos. The little ones look really well and there do seems to be quite a few yellow pin feathers.

Still not sure what these two will produce. I think we may get some yellow faced blues, who are all spit to recessive pied, but the interesting thing is that baby number 1 and baby number 2 look very different in terms of skin colouring. Dark wings v light wings.

so any thoughts on what the yellow one will be. definitely black eyes, but alot of yellow.

 

cannot be lutino as it has black eyes, a recessive pied cannot hide genes, so it has to be split to recessive, whatever it is.

 

its mother is a fallow, but what can the fallow hide? Since the eyes are not red, it cannot be fallow, could it be receeive pied? Mum could be fallow split recessive, but it should have more colour one would think. Strange one.

I'm not good with that stuff Dave... but I'm sure someone else will have an opinion

and we have opaline chicks in the nest too and just worked out the Dad is opaline as well.

Babies 2 and 3 are looking like yellow face blues.

 

Babies 3, 4 and 5 are too little too tell at the moment.

 

I went back and checked some old posts on this thread, and Angel definitely layed her first egg on 17th Feb. Now, it takes 17 days for an egg to hatch, so since this was a leap year, the first egg shoudl have hatched on the 5th or 6th march. It is now the 10th and nothing. Not a good sign.

BUT.....the counting is 18 to 21 days and that is taken from the date of incubation not the first egg laid.

I so hope you are right. Milly and humphrey was such an upsetting result that i am not sure if I coudl cope with another failure in the breeding pairs.

 

I remember posting that I was not sure that Hugo had the whole techniique of mating down right. I am worried that he "missed" so to speak, but Angel's body was already triggered to produce eggs, so she produced 7 eggs, and Hugo was just a flop, so to speak.

Have you a newer picture of the eggs....you can tell if they are fertile by the colour

How many of those eggs hatch? Do the first few hatch or only the last few?

They all hatch if fertile, I once had three chicks hatch on the same day in the same nest.

You can remove the eggs and keep them in a room temp place the replace them when the third egg is laid , thus the incubation will start at the same time with all the eggs and so all hatching at the same time.

What a busy day. Took some more shots of the little ones of Sebby and Cheese.

 

The eldest with all the yellow will be a Golden faced type II blue recessive pied I think. Little other colouring so far, but you can see a few black pin feathers coming through.

 

 

The 2nd eldest looks to be an opaline blue

 

The middle child looks to also be an opaline blue

 

The 2nd youngest is too young to tell any colours yet

 

The youngest is focusing on standing, pin feathers to follow shortly

 

 

The big action happened in Angel and Hugo's nest box, where 2 little one's hatched on the same day. They joined the little journeyman so now there are 3 in there. I do not expect any red eyes but I will check later, if not today, tomorrow.

 

Tralia is still sitting on her eggs, keeping them warm.
