March 5, 200817 yr Lots of little eyes staring back at me tonight when i peeked in. very cute I'm so excited for you... congrats!
March 5, 200817 yr You have babymaking going on everywhere PS I might have to put an order if for one of HUGO's Edited March 5, 200817 yr by KAZ
March 5, 200817 yr Like they say you only get out what you put in . Sounds like your getting the rewards, Welldone
March 5, 200817 yr Author See now Kaz, to me that is funny. me giving you a bird. (Laughing out loud). Never saw that coming. Might deliver it when I come over for a visit. Either July or October school hols. Not sure whihc one at this stage. New photos soon. I am going to clean milly's and sebby's nest box, check all youngsters and put more shavings in there, so pics will be then.
March 5, 200817 yr Author morning - no changes, well almost none. Milly and Humphrey still ahve 2 good looking kids, growing well. Sebby and Cheese still have 5 young uns growing up before my eyes. Angel and Hugo still have 7 eggs, no hatchlings yet - hopefully today. Tralia and Nibbler now have 7 eggs. She may have started slowly but she has well and truly caught up. In a personal note, ever time I check the nest box, I am amazed at what a beautiful coloured bird Tralia is. I have had multiple discussions on what her colour is, and I am still undecided which way to lean. All I know is that she is one of my fave birds in terms of colours - yes, I am a spangle fan!!!! May she produce many.
March 5, 200817 yr that is great news about Tralia. she may have been a slow starter but she sure is making up for it.
March 5, 200817 yr Things seem to be going well Dave apart from the air in crop thing...yes I agree I like Spangles also, especially Opaline Spangles.
March 5, 200817 yr Author Norm, I think the air crop thing was a combination of things, but mainly after looking at the deceased body of the litte one, and in particular its crop, I think there was a deformity there. Could not be helped.
March 6, 200817 yr Author Another one from Milly's and Humprhey's nest box is dead. I feel so bad. I feel like I should have noticed it earlier. I do nto think they are getting enough food. Humprhey eats seed, a little soft food, spinach, drinks water and feeds Milly, but the young ones are not getting enough. I cannot risk the last little one. I have moved it into Sebby and Cheese's nest box, and I have moved their unhatched eggs out and given them to Milly. milly shoudl sit on the eggs and if they hatch, i will decide what to do then. hopefully Sebby will adopt the little one as her own. All the birds in that nest box seem to be doing well. Not sure what else I can do. This is the last hope for this one to survive. The other nest boxes are too far behind, as in they have eggs but no young, so I have to foster to Sebby. If the other eggs with Milly hatch, then Angel and Tralia might also have hatchings by then, so I can foster those out. If they do not hatch, they there is no nothing lost. Any thoughts?

You have made ALL the right decisons from what I can see here
March 6, 200817 yr Author So i decided to put the rest of Sebby's eggs in with Milly, thinking none will hatch. That theory lasted for about 3 hours, when one hatched. I have moved the little one into the nest of Angel and hugo, who shoudl have their own little ones begin to hatch any day now
March 6, 200817 yr Author Almost Libby. because of where the breeding boxes are at the moment, i ahve to clibe a ladder to get to angels. So here i am, 9pm at night, climbing a ladder with an hours old chick and the egg shells up a ladder to carefully place them in angels nestbox

Good stuff and good luck!
March 6, 200817 yr i feel ya on that one Dave! My top cabinet needs to be reached with some kind of step up tool (usually a garden chair) But that's because i'm a short a*se :hap: a whole whopping.... 5'3 & 1/2 HAHAHA
March 6, 200817 yr i am sorry to hear about another dying on you Dave, you are showing so much love and commitment to your budgies that i hope things start going smoothly for you.
March 6, 200817 yr I often do what you have done Dave, if I get too many young in one nest & the real little ones look like they might not get fed, I will put them in the nest of one that’s close to getting young to hatch & if it is too big when their eggs begin hatching you can foster it to another batch or even back to it’s own nest when its bigger & can survive okay. Also I wouldn't feel too bad about loosing some of those chicks, as I have often said, if they don't survive themselves, either something is wrong with the chicks or the parents & if they survive by artificle means they could mean breeding problems later when they get to breed.
March 7, 200817 yr I shift them around too Dave. There was the youngest lacewing chick wasnt getting fed as much as it should so I moved it into another nest for awhile....once it was bigger and doing much better I moved it back into it parents nest again. Like the game of musical chairs but with budgie babies and eggs. :hap:
March 7, 200817 yr Author I am not sure about moving it back. That is fine to do if there are others in that nestbox, but since thsi little one is on his or her own, there is little chance that he/she will go back. milly has hatched one of sebby's eggs, and there are 2 more of these unhatched. Milly through her own egg out of the nest box. I cracked it open to see, and it was not fertilised anyway. Sebby and Cheese are doing a good jon raising them all. All look good and are getting fed. Angel is doign well. I think she has accepted the new little one and appears to be feeding this little one. None of hers have hatched, that i am aware of at this stage. Tralia is still sitting on her eggs, keeping them all warm. I will check how things are going in the morning and do an update again then, hopefully with pics
March 7, 200817 yr Author sad evening here. i checked on the nest boxes here and in checking in Sebby's, I noticed that all her chicks were healthy and fed, and the fostered youngster from Milly's nestbox was dead. All 3 young look the the same, they seem to have food in their crops when the died, not much, but they did not wither away. They all looked to be underdevloped in terms of feather growth. All I can conclude is that they had some sort of genetic defect. Milly has had young before, so I know it is not her. All I can conclude then is that it is from Humphrey. Sad as i said, but neither milly nor Humphrey will be given the chance to breed again. Milly is now sitting on some eggs, and I will place some fake eggs in her nest to discourage her from laying anymore, but she and humphrey will now have the chance to build their strength back up before they return to the newly improved aviary
March 7, 200817 yr Oh no... so sorry Dave. I guess it was meant to be, however, still sad! :hap: Best of luck with the others
March 7, 200817 yr Hiya Dave, sorry to hear about Milly's chicks... she has been such a good mum. She'll be happy in retirement with Humphrey :hap: Feathers.
March 8, 200817 yr Author redid the large avary today, so no new pics. pics tomorrow. i will be interested to see what people think of sebby's chicks. Whilst we came to the conclusion that mixing a fallow with a recessive pied would give you normal blues, there are a lot of yellow pin feathers coming through on the oldest, i think that one of the others might be opaline, so can you have a recessive pied male split to opline? Not sure on others, photos tomorrow hopefully
