Posted January 27, 200817 yr We picked her up from Sunnie's on Friday night - in the end i was more excited that Jessica!Poor Sunnie though - i have bombarded her with emails with lots of questions and reassurances! LOLWhen we got to Sunnie's - Snuggles was a real character! We put her in her new cage and she was doing acorbatics all over the place and would let me touch her through the wire.Since we took her home - she has mellowed out alot - and a bit unsure of us. Today Jessica took her into her room and Snugs sat on a shelf and when Jess went near her she would try and nip her. So Jess went to get some seed and grated carrot and she started pecking at it - so Jess is convinced she was just hungry! When we get her out the cage - she tries to back away from us but then when we do get her out she snuggles into our chest and nearly goes to sleep. She might then get bored and fly off - which is one question i need to ask - I really think i should get her wings clipped because she is going to really knock herself out soon! She bumps into everything! We are so grateful to Sunnie - We are so in love with our new baby girl :)I forgot to mention - Snuggles has started to chirp away. She ends up going crazy at times - is that a bad chirp when the sound all cross and frustrated? Its like she is screaming at us to shut up cos she is talking! (Laughing out loud)
January 27, 200817 yr That's awsome!!! You'll love her. She'll settle down after a little while, being in a new home and all may be stressing her a little. I'd prob get her wings clipped if it was me, but that's a personal choice which only you can make. It would however make her eaiser to tame. Best of luck and remember we are all here for ANY questions you have, however small they may seem to you! Keep us updated on your darling little Snuggles
January 27, 200817 yr Glad you got your bubba home I personally clip wings for a certain birds that need it also, my weero who nearly caved his own head in received a clipping, to save his own life but then i have a budgie who's very cautious of the walls and windows who's never needed clipping, difference was he was hand reared from before his eyes were open The agro yelloing at you chirps are all natural for a younger budgie, eventually they grow out of it Good luck with your bubba, i hope it becomes really tame for you
January 27, 200817 yr Hi I'm so pleased you are over the moon with your "little baby", they are beautiful creatures budgies and so intelligent. My personal opinion is that it's cruel to clip a birds wing, after all they are meant to fly and as long as they are in an enclosed space (no doors and windows open) then they should be able to fly when you are around them. I liken clipping a birds wings to tying a 3ft long rope around a person's ankle and tethering it to a spot in a room, how frustrating would that be for a human? I should imagine not being able to fly for a bird must be ***. When they are young, you can train them and if you gain their confidence they will be able to fly around whilst you're there and you can keep an eye on them. My darling birds' cage is always open whilst we are home, he is able to come out when he wants as the room is secure, although he rarely comes out without us being in the room. His cage is his base, he never ventures far from it, but does fly to us and loves to play, we never have a problem getting back in the cage as that's his domain and he knows it. Enjoy your time with your lovely bird, they are a joy to be with, I hope you come to love her as much as we do our "baby boy". hugs Chrissie
January 28, 200817 yr Fantastic . It sounds like you are all very much in love already with little Snuggles (beware of The Addiction it will sneak up on you without you even knowing until it's to late ).
January 28, 200817 yr Welcome home Snuggles and you are so lucky to be able to adopt from one of our awesome forum members :fear. Look forward to pics
February 1, 200817 yr I am so glad you guys are all happy and that Snuggles is settling in well and getting better by the day. As I have said to you before, wing clipping is a personal choice and sometimes it is easier for taming and the wings will grow back and you may, as with my Saffy, (parrot not budgie) only have it done once and the bird is so tame by the time it grows out you neednt do it again. Last time I heard from you though, Snuggles seemed to be settling more day by day, so also dont feel as if you need to rush into it, as she will (should) become more used to you and Jess and family every day. I love hearing your progress and as always, I am here for advice and support as are all other forum members
