Drought and male chicks is a load of codswallop its more that breeders keep hens for their future breeding program and also hens sell first.

You are limiting yourself by doing the rounds of petshops Liv. Get in touch with a local budgerigar club and go to a meeting and get to know local breeders. Show breeders cull regularly especially their not quite up to standard size or type chicks. That would be the best advice I can offer you. Petshops are generally full of smaller size birds bred by birdmills with unknown and dodgy genetics. Go for the real breeders and see what you can find then

Hi I have a little fella a bit like yours and I just put him in with a dark grey hen, what sort of colouring would I likely get from that breeding i was told by someone that it would most likely be greys, voilets??? Anybody have some ideas for me pls???

Hi Colorama,

 

I would guess you could get some violets, especially if your grey hen has theviolet gene (she will have a slight purple tinge around the neck)

 

 

You could start a new topic with your question and pictures of both birds. You will get lots of help from the others. They probaby wont find it tucked away in here

Grey's dont have violet tinges around the neck if carrying violet.
