New Member And New Chicks...

:budgiedance: HI Everyone,

My name is Sandra and I live in the Central west of NSW.

We have two mating pairs of budgies and hopefully a mating pair of cockateils.

One of our budgie pairs has successfully hatched four chicks, they are about one week old and we are all very excited.

What can I expect from here on in ??

We have them housed in a budgie cage with a wooden breeding box. We hang the cage outside when the weather is good, under a massive golden elm tree. We bring them in a night and of course, when the weather turns bad.

Our other budgie pair, do the " deed " but no sign of nesting yet.

Our cockateils, dont do anything !!!!!!!!! Our local pet shop assured us, we have a male and female.

I look forward to any advice and tips and of course, chatting.

Welcome to the forum :budgiedance:, we would love to see pictures of your flock for sure if you would like to share.

We have an excellent breeding forum where you can ask all your questions and of course read and learn.

Hello and welcome to you, your family and your flock! I'm sure you love this place, learn alot and feel really welcome :(Laughing out loud):

How old are they and how big is the cage and how have you set it up for breeding if you are trying ?

:D HI KAZ

Our cockateils are in an aviary, about the size of 4 ft by 2ft, and they have two hollow logs in the aviary. I am not sure of their age, as we brought them from a pet shop.

We see them grooming each other, but thats all the affection we see.

Thanks Sandra.

Perhaps some pictures, a few of us are familiar with tiels and may be able to help with mutations, ages and sexes... as some tiels can't be visually sexed... I also think you'll find your tiels (if they are of breeding age and opposite sex) would prefer a box over a log, there's many requirements that they'll find they dont have in a log, and won't fancy using it due to that. :D

Hi Libby

They have a breeding box, but someone told us they like hollow logs more. So they have a choice of venue

I was told the color around their cheek area, determines the sex. Dark circle for male and lighter for female. Our tiels are grey in color and have yellow around the cheek area.

Thanks Sandra.

4ft by 2 ft with logs in there does NOT sound like a lot of flying space to me. Have you a photo ?

Welcome to the forum!!

Congrats on your baby chicks!!! I also have 2 breeding pairs of budgies (currenly resting after a busy season)

And i also have 2 pairs of cockateils that are ALSO doing nothing! I have 2 males and 2 females. In 5 years have only produced 2 chicks. I have no idea who the parents of the chicks were as they all swaped mates and parenting duties; I have even seen the two males have a go at mating
