Please help me! My daughters birds name is Tweety Bird he is only a baby but just today he has been very puffy and doesn't look good poo is like diarrohea and i don't know what to do with him all he wants to do is sit on my finger and doesn't want to get off it! when i wen to clean out the cage though i noticed he kept trying to jump underneath the water to get wet! what should i do my daughter will be so upset if he dies on her!

No 1 , is keep him warm , if you have a vet in your area it would be best to call in tomorrow .

If you can find a bird vet in your area and you can afford one,go there.There are so many bird diseases wilth pretty much the same symptoms,when a bird gets to the puffy stage,it's not good.You could take a chance and go to the pet shop and get some sulphadim..and try that as a last resort.Hope that was helpful

As others have said, once a budgie starts to look like that they have been hiding an illness and a vet becomes urgent. If its a baby budgie has it been eating. Sometimes it looks like they have been but arent really. If you cannot get to a vet tonight, put a lamp near the cage 25 watt globe, and go to the bird vet as soon as possible.

Just as we take a child temperature to see if they are well or not....we check a budgies bottom for signs of ill health.

Probably a moult as he's too old for it to be something like french moult

okay so is that just like moulting baby feathers to get adult ones? Sorry i sound a bit silly but i have no idea about budgies!

yeah, it just means he's replacing the old with the new you'll see little hard pins starting to form on his head mainly and depending on his age if he's young you'll see the bars on his head receading backwards a cm or so from the cere

If he is a baby as stated in the first post, and he hasnt been eating properly...he can lose feathers from a stress moult. Do you have any idea of exact age ?

As everyone said I would advise an avian vet visit ASAP. If you don't know where the closest avian vet it we have an Avian Vet Look-up in our FAQ section. Trying to guess what is wrong with time ticking you may find your budgie is going to get sicker and sicker. Birds are so delicate I know from first hand experience one minute they can seem find and the next they are gone. Especially when they have gotten to the degree where they are listess.

 

How long have you had your baby budgie? How did he seem when you first got him? Did he settle in okay for the first few days?
