January 21, 200817 yr hey there Well, I'll take a shot at it. The first two - on the left is a sky blue boy and on the right is a yellow face type II cobalt blue girl. the Second two - on the left is a yellow face type II spangle opaline skye blue boy and on the right it an opaline cobalt blue girl. the third photo - your friends bird, am I guessing it is a boy.
January 21, 200817 yr First picture : on the left a normal blue cock on the right a YF2 cobalt spangle hen second picture : on the left is a YF2 looks to be opaline spangle and is a cock but would need pics of the back/wings to verify the opaline spangle on the right is a cobalt/violet opaline hen third picture : a normal light green, not sure on sex...
January 21, 200817 yr Do you have any pictures of the backs of the birds as wing markings help with identifying what they are. The one on the right in picture one has darkish flights, and the wing markings are wrong for a spangle ...so I would say NOT a spangle but a back shot would help. Possibly greywing or cinnamon ? The blue boy on the left also has pale spots and has pale body colour, ( could be a bad photo ) so I would like to see his back too. The green budgie of your friend appears to be a boy :yellowhead: Edited January 21, 200817 yr by KAZ
February 1, 200817 yr Author This is a more recent photo of the budgie I got from my friend The bird's name is Buttercup. http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj183/k...ie/DSCF1823.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj183/k...ie/DSCF1822.jpg Kirsten Edited February 1, 200817 yr by Kirsten
February 1, 200817 yr First Post with Links 1. Normal Sky blue and Yellow Face Type 2 Mauve 2. the second picture is too dark to tell what sex at least for me and would need a clearer picture to be sure about the mutation too. 3. Normal Green looks like a hen Second Post with Links 1. Normal Green look boy (not the same normal green as the other one or is it?) If you can take pictures of the front and the back in normal perching positions that would really help us out. When they are in different positions the shadowing plays a great part in not being able to see clearly. Also if you can take the picture under the natural daylight (sunlight) that will give a better reflection of the color of the cere and feather colors. The flash tends to wash out the colors and then it is difficult to tell.
February 3, 200817 yr Author Elly, Yes it is the same bird He did change colour a bit when he multed the first time! Thanks Kirsten
February 3, 200817 yr Hi all, I bought these Budgie's awhile ago at a local breeder, but i dont know what type they are, could you tell me? Thanks, Kirsten http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj183/k...ie/DSCF1691.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj183/k...ie/DSCF1556.jpg and this one from my friend. Is It a boy? http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj183/k...ie/DSCF1335.jpg I wouldn't call the yellow face a cobalt or a mauve and definitely not a spangle. There is some discussion to suggest that Y/F type 2 is actually a green series bird and that the Y/F through the body creates a blue suffusion through the green. If you read any of Cyril Rogers Budgerigars in colour books the colour and type combinations can be endless.
February 10, 200817 yr There is some discussion to suggest that Y/F type 2 is actually a green series bird and that the Y/F through the body creates a blue suffusion through the green. Sorry but can you show (link) to that info? I would be against that line of thought as the green appears later in life as the bird moults, the blue is covered over by the green. From the first post: picture 1: Sky blue nomal. and Yellowface normal (although as Kaz suggested possible cinnamon) Pic2: Yellowface spangle, i can't see signs of opaline on him. cobalt opaline normal the green normal has been answered already and i agree Male.
