Posted January 19, 200817 yr Hi Would love some advice. I was searching the web and found this forum. THANKS. We are not budgie beeders. Budgie lovers yes. At any rate we have a Budgie that we have had for about 2 years. about 6 months ago we thought we would get her a friend. Since day one they hit it off great. we put two small cages up against each other for about a week and then out them both in a new big cage. All has been great they are great friends. About two months ago they started mating. It seems to be their favorite passtime. :hap: Then the older started laying eggs, but she would break them the next day. Last week she laid a egg in the corner of the cage ( no nest box) then the next day another and then another. This time she has sat on them the most part of the last week the other bird often feeds her and has even taken a trun sitting on the eggs. My question is can the eggs survive without a nest box? Should I get one and move the eggs into it? What else do I have to do for them? Thanks for any help you can give.
January 19, 200817 yr Now that the incubation has begun, best to leave them to it. Looks like you will have chicks before you know it. Shifting eggs NOW or changing things would be hazzardous. So, I would just watch and wait and see what happens. You havent got a grate floor have you ? Is it covered with paper or something ? Oh.....and WELCOME Linda Edited January 19, 200817 yr by KAZ

Great advice from Kaz there. If your floor is a grate, I'd put something under the eggs... to stop breakage and make it a little more comfortable for the hen... tissue/paper towel??? Just a thought???
January 19, 200817 yr Author If this is on twice I am sorry . I replied and can't find where it went. Thank you for the warm welcome. We do not have a grate in the cage. The bottom of the cage has a small corn cob litter type stuff on it.The hen made a mound of in the litter and laid her eggs right in the middle and is happily sitting on them. It is nice because I can scoop the poop and not disturb the eggs. Thank you for the advice. I am sure I will have many many questions as we go along . Linda

January 20, 200817 yr Welcome Linda, as others have said just leave it & see what happens, she may leave them at some stage, but I have had Cockatiels lay on the floor & raise young without a box. If she leaves & you want to breed get a box for the next time, as it’s more normal…laying on the floor is desperation.
