I think there is something wrong with my budgie

I think there is something wrong with my budgie it cant fly very well and just flys into a wall :D also it cant jump from perch to perch it has to climb across the bars to get to the next perch when it does jump to another perch it lands on it then loses it balance and falls to the ground.

Does anyone know why?

If you got its wings clipped, then there ya go, thats why. If not, then he might have some problems with his wings and if it continues I could bring it to a vet. You do have a vet right? Please tell me that someone here does...

There actally very short and no vet around where i live dont know much about budgies.

If they are very short then that is probably why- they must have been clipped before you got your bird or something. How long ago did you get your bird? If you just got it, it might be scared and sometimes when you let them out to fly they go crazy and bump into the walls and stuff. I've seen this happen a few times. I would just let your bird settle down for a while.

I got both my budgies last august and he fly very well back then

Thats strange...there is definatly something wrong with your budgie. You need to get it to a vet, or it could hurt itself in flight or trying to fly. If you don't have a vet then I guess your on your own- I don't have any other advice on what to do. :D

:D this doesn't sound too good. Yes a vet may be the answer but you stated before that it's hard to get to one and even then they might not be able to help you. Thata is a judgement you have to make for youself. For now just try and make it as easy for him as possable. Put the branchs down closer to the cage floor so if he does fall off them there will be less chance to hurt himself. If you can put more branches in there for him to ove about on. He may of in fact had a heavy molt. Was there suddenly a LOT of feathers about? If that's the case he may just need a bit of time to let the new ones grow out fully. I can't say for sure that this is it, one I don't even know if he did molt at all and two I can only read what you have put up.

i would have said moult as well look rule out the simple reasons first

Now I remember the other day I was reading a book on budgies and I happened to stumble over a part about budgies molting. It stated that if they lose enough feathers sometimes they are unable to fly for a short time until the featheres grow back. I would agree to make it more easier for your bird to get around in his cage, and overtime hopefully his feathers will grow back and he'll fly soon again. Best wishes. :D:wub:

So he has french molt?

Why do you say that? We meant that he is moulting. Thats when a bird loses some of its feathers, including flight and tail feathers, as well as the little soft ones. Its completly normal as they will grow back soon. My guess would be that his short flight feathers will grow back. If for some odd reason they never do, you should really get him checked out by a vet if possible.

Sometimes he falls and lands on its back and he cant get back up so i have to help him :bluebudgie:

That does not sound right. Do you know how old he is? It almost sounds as if it is neurological in origin, or maybe the result of a stroke. Could he have ingested something that is not budgie-friendly?

Have you been able to see an avian vet?

He is only a year old. He doesnt look ill but he cant jump from a perch to another one and he cant fly very well?

Since this is a pretty recent development in your budgie, and it has already been over a week since you first posted about this, I strongly urge you to call the vet and schedule an appointment. Budgies won't look ill until they are very, very sick already as they tend to hide any weakness as long as possible. By the time they look or act sick, they are feeling really bad. Even during a heavy molt or if the wings have been clipped, a budgie should still be able to keep his balance. This sounds like it could be serious enough to warrant a trip to the vets.

There arent any vets who specializes in budgies around where i live so i dont know where to go? I might have to go up country.

Maybe call around to the local vets where you are and see if any of them either specialize in birds without being a true avian vet, or ask if they see a lot of birds. You may be able to find a good vet close that way. If not, ask them who they refer their avian patients to. Good luck!

It's been a while since anyone's posted here. How's your budgie, James? And what's his name? :fear All the best to you.

if he is still off-balance then i would take him to a vet asap! not in a couple of months... it could be any number of things that could cause this and it is better to rule out the more serious possiblilities. and even if it is caused by a bad moult the bird could still be under a lot of stress because of this. please get him checked over, even if it isnt an avian vet, just a vet who has had some experience with birds would be better than nothing. i hope he gets well soon james,
