Posted January 18, 200817 yr I had some time to take some pictures of some of my young birds that are finishing their first moult today, but as soon as I started the battery went flat, so only two pictures of the one bird, more later. It's supposed to be a Yellow Face2 Violet, but with the flash you wouldn't know it. It's a hen bird if you can't see the Brown cere clearly. I think she is developing nicely, but I don't know if you can tell from these photos. Sadly I can't take pictures without flash as the roof is compelety enclosed, so insufficeint light. Thanks Kaz, yes they are a nice colour...re sponsoring is that very expensive?she is beautiful Norm Thanks Elly. This hen was bred from a Yellow Faced Opaline Sky Blue hen & a Spangle Violet cock, they had YF Violet & Sky Blue Normals & YF Violet Spangles, the Normals all look better than the Spangles, the Spangles seem to be later at moulting also. I noticed with some pairs that one particular colour out of them always seems better [show wise] than the other young. Like one pair where the cock is split Cinnamon I have produces a lot of nice Cinnamon hens, much better than the cocks from the same pair. Edited January 18, 200817 yr by Norm

January 20, 200817 yr beautiful birds norm, how long does it take for a budgie to go through there first moult, my baby budgie has just started moulting.
January 21, 200817 yr Author Gorgeous Norm! i love the skyblue dominant pied! Is it YF or is that just my computer ? Sorry Libby I misled you the other day, yesterday I was watching my birds & I realised which one that bird was & it is in fact a Yellow Face. [Not a dirty face or maybe both]. In my other post of YF’s, this fact that, that Pied cock & the YF Violet hen at the beginning of this post, both have the cream type faces & that seems to be washed out by the flash, but the others in my other post asking if they are Golden Faces, the Yellow stays in, of course the Yellow is more a Buttercup colour & stronger, but maybe this shows that the colour is different in some way.beautiful birds norm, how long does it take for a budgie to go through there first moult, my baby budgie has just started moulting. Deb I was hoping someone else would answer that question, I have never watched that close to know exactly how long it takes. Budgies seem to be replacing feathers almost all the time. If you remove a large feather for any reason it will be replaced in about two weeks. It also seems to me that young birds vary in when they start their first adult moult, as I have families that start quite young & are finished in a short time while other families are much later, in starting. I think the main part of the moult takes a few weeks, but they probably still are replacing some body feathers much longer.
January 21, 200817 yr I found that it takes around a month to 2 months for them to completely get rid of all the PIN feathers. How often and how long of course various because of the articial air that we heat and cool with so that always makes a difference. Sometimes it felt like they were molting slowing and then other times quickly so really depends on the conditions and the bird. . I hope that helps.
January 21, 200817 yr thanks , your info helps. i was just wondering how long because violet my handraised baby is still biting and started to fight with the other females and i was wanting to know how long before she gets out of the mood she is in. it sounds like she will be back to normal in a month.
