Posted January 17, 200817 yr With the first of my Dusk cocks that I paired up, the first batch of eggs were all infertile. They are breeding in an aviary with another pair. On the second batch one egg hatched early & then nothing else hatched until last week out of 8 eggs, when one of the last ones hatched, I was worried she may have mated with a young cock from a previous nest, I have now removed him. I’m now getting more confident that they may be the Dusks babies, as the first one is getting feathers & they are a very Dark Blue series, which might turn out a Blue Dusk. Why I’m more confident now is that the last baby to hatch appears to be a Lutino. This Dusk cock is split Blue & Lutino. He is mated with a Cinnamon Violet hen. His fertility might be getting low, as he was born June 2003. If it turns out a Dusk I will be happy, as even if I get one or two out of birds I have bought, I’m not so worried. It’s when you get nothing & I’ve had plenty of those, it’s disappointing. Photos later if it turns out okay. The other Dusk [a bit younger] is mated to a Light Green Normal hen, whose on eggs, in a cabinet, they look hopeful as well. Edited January 17, 200817 yr by KAZ
January 17, 200817 yr Congratulations Norm glad to see you to are getting the results you want also We candled the fallow eggs today, top cabinet with three eggs so far have all fertilised... bottom with three are infertile but that may be due to the fact that either the bottom cock is too old (04) rung or because only the top cabinet had their vents clipped... who knows hey, but like you said some result is always good result, right ?
January 21, 200817 yr good to hear you have some possible dusk babies from that pair! I can't wait to see them feather, I'm still very curious about this mutation
January 21, 200817 yr Wonderful news Norm, I do look forward to seeing pictures and the babies feathering up I still don't quite understand this mutuation yet, so I look forward to learning.
January 21, 200817 yr Author Don’t worry Elly neither do I…the first chick looks something like a Sky Blue Normal, but there is something a bit different to it, but Mum has started to feather pluck it so it’s been moved to a foster, the other real young chick is a Lutino, I’m told this mutation adds a strong colour to Lutino, it remains to be seen, there are a lot of Lutino’s in it’s history. I was told it was Dominant so I need to wait for birds that show the mutation, as being Dominant it cant be carried.
January 21, 200817 yr What is a Dusk mutation??? Sounds pretty... has any one got a picture? I have an article on the DUSK budgerigar. Send me your email address and I will send it onto you
January 22, 200817 yr Author from what I've read I think it's a color adding factor like violet Yes I think that's right Elly & Ravengypsy.
January 23, 200817 yr Author Today I checked the other Dusk, breeding in the cabinet, so the young must be from the Dusk cock…one chick already hatched & looks like 6 or 7 are fertile so surely I should get a Dusk out of that lot. I’m getting a bit excited.

February 3, 200817 yr Author Just a bit of an update on my Dusk batches. I should be able to supply some pictures soon, some of the oldest young are getting feathers, both of my Green Dusk Budgie cocks are split for Blue & I seem to have lots of Blue series birds coming on & I don’t really know what to expect as far as colours go, but some seem to be very Dark something like Greys, but a little early yet. In the first batch of only two young, one just looks like a Sky Blue normal & the Red Eye turned out to be an Albion, so nothing conclusive on that batch, but have two batches one from cabinet breeding, there are 7 young so should get something from that & I have another batch about 8 young from an aviary batch, which I suspect the Dusk mated with another hen as her cock died. There are two red eye young in this batch one is definitely a Lutino & Dusk is supposed to intensify Lutino colouring…more soon.
February 3, 200817 yr look forward to those pictures Norm , sounds link things are going well glad to see you back
March 24, 200817 yr Author Any more updates Norm? I posted some pictures in a new post Jimmy can't remember what I called it. Found it I hope this works...you have already looked at it though. http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....18310&st=20 Edited March 24, 200817 yr by Norm
March 25, 200817 yr Author Don’t worry Neat you wont be the only one, they are not really that much different, it’s really subtle, but it’s just interesting that it’s a new mutation. I have only seen them in a few colours & hope to breed them into other colours to see the effect. Just interesting I think.
