Posted January 16, 200817 yr okay so I had posted about his genetics before and it was decided that maybe stress was what made his tail feathers white. It has been well over 6 months now and his tail feather is still white, new ones have come through and they are all white where they are usually black. He constantly has a blue feather on the back of his head and even though he is over 1 year old now,his cere is purple! Is it possible he has the pied gene? Or is he just a freak of nature!! hehehehehe His parents were a lutino hen and a normal green/split lutino male. and if I mate him with rocky, what are the possibilities?
January 16, 200817 yr I was thinking the same KAS . FGM do you avairy breed ? I cannot explain a blue from luts ?
January 16, 200817 yr Wow i didnt even click on to that factor... although it could still be quite possible if both parents are split to blue....
January 16, 200817 yr Wow i didnt even click on to that factor... although it could still be quite possible if both parents are split to blue.... Â Â Hi libby , the hen cannot be split for blue as lutinos are sex-linked variety the same as opaline , albino, and cinnamon. The hen is either a lutino only or normal , she cannot be split.
January 16, 200817 yr When sex linked why can't lutino's be split blue? i've never heard of this before.... I've had sexlinked hens before split to blue so how does lutino itself not apply to this rule? Edited January 16, 200817 yr by *libby*

Im sorry Libby your right , I just re-read the post and I was thinking of Lutino and not blue which is recessive and can be carried by both parents Maybe its time for me to go to bed.

January 16, 200817 yr HeHe maybe lonebudgie gees i was starting to re-consider the genetics of my whole flock then... don't scare me like that   I have one eye doing work on the computer and one eye watching the tennis. Im starting to feel the eyelids trying to tell me something. Im actually still coming to terms with this site also , as Im now more of a show bird breeder and its throwing me off with some of these varieties you guys are breeding , I mean lutino to blue in show birds would not be done , but with mixing varieties you can end up with all sorts of pretty colours.  P.S read your post of your flock , VERY NICE !! .
January 16, 200817 yr I am thinking what Libby said (I believe) that maybe it is some type of pied fluke and he could be a dominant pied but not showing the spot on the back of his head. The genetics outcome50% spangle50% normals50% dominant pieds (if that is what it is) All of the above can be in a combo of course 100% blues male chicks will be split for opaline lutino females because Poppy is split to lutino since his mom was a lutino Edited January 16, 200817 yr by Elly
January 16, 200817 yr Norm I was thinking that too but don't know much about that mutation. Here is the link to Daz's post about his. It could be very possible http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....c=15339&hl=
January 16, 200817 yr What about Melanistic Spangle, it looks a bit like one of them? My thoughts too Norm
