Move Babies

Is it okay to move babies out of nest box and let them live in the nest cage so they have more air and room. They are 2-3 weeks and they seem to be poking their heads out of the box hole alot to their mum and dad. When I get them out they have a good move around etc. Could I put them in nest cage bottom during day then in nest box at night or still too young. It is all in the same cage and would not be moving parents, ( it gets warm and humid in box during day, Townsville) Thanks

Im with Kaz , too early, the cock and the hen will both be still feeding , if you want you can place some millet sprays in the box , this will help the young with feeding and quicker and less stressful fledging.

Another tip for you....during the hot days, I replace the sliding doors to the nestboxes with chicks in with section of mesh cut out and so they slide into place just like the sliding doors did. I put them there during the day and replace the others back for the evening. Helps a lot.

Thanks for the ideas, I thought they were too young, but they really spread their wings when I hold them and not much room in box to do that. My nest box slides out of the cage but I will make a lid of wire to place on it to keep them cooler and more air. Thanks Kel

Kel, they are really only ready to come out when FULLY feathered and a reasonable tail :D

okay thanks for that. They grow so quick its hard to tell when theyre actually ready for things.

Yes...for sure. I once had a nest with ten baby budgies in it. A standard sized nestbox, also in warmer weather. They were all fine :D
