Posted January 11, 200817 yr Hi! I have just bought two split Lacewing cocks. An actual lacewing is next to impossible to get your hands on here in Norway, unfortunately. Even though I know there`s only a 25% chance of getting Lacewing Females, I`m hoping that I will be lucky eventually. Are any of you familiar with breeding split Lacewing birds to normals and if so, what is your experiance with producing Lacewing hens after such a bird? Is it next to impossible or quite common? Both birds will be paired to normal dark factor hens this spring. Any advice and/or tips will be grately appreciated! thanks so much! :budgiedance:

January 11, 200817 yr At least with having two birds split to Lacewing, if you get some Lacewing hens you can pair it back to the other split, if they aren't too closely related. I bought a bird that tuned out to be split for Lacewing, which I didn't know until it produced one Lacewing hen, it was also split for Lutino & produced three of them. I took three rounds from them, but didn't produce another Lacewing, something like 18 young. The problem is that all the cocks produced have the potential to be split, but you have to breed with them to find out, I kept all the cocks & have bred with most of them, but as yet haven't produced another Lacewing. I mated the original split cock to another hen to get more, but she hasn't bred & the young hen also mated to get some more splits hasn't bred as yet. So unless you're very lucky it can take awhile. The Lacewing hen I produced is a white hen, I like the Yellow ones the best, what series are yours Green of Blue? Edited January 11, 200817 yr by Norm
January 11, 200817 yr Author Thanks Norm! I guess I`ll have to be very lucky then or extremely patient in order to get Lacewing offspring from these birds. But for now they are my only hope as the variaty is quite hard to get a hold of here in Norway. Both cocks are in the green series. I`m planning to pair them both to cobalt hens. My favourite is the white lacewing! Do you have any pictures of the hen that you produced? I would love to see her. Have a great day! KBJ http://home.online.no/~ru-torp/
January 11, 200817 yr This is a picture of her when she was young, that’s all I have at the moment. She is Opaline & her wing markings aren’t that strong. Is that your own web site? Nice looking birds, wish I could understand the language...
January 12, 200817 yr Author Oh, what a pretty bird! Are they hard to get a hold of in Australia? You are very lucky to have sush a bird in your aviary. I noticed that you have 200+ budgies. Wow, that`s really exciting! Do you have more rare variaties? I`m currently on a waiting list for a Texas Clearbody. Do you have that as well? Yes, unfortunately my web-site is in norwegian only at the moment. I`m going to make some changes soon and then I`m planning to translate it into english as well. I`ve just bought several new showbudgies from a well known breeder here in norway, among them a visuel violet witch are among my favourite colours. I`ve also sold out most of the Australian flock, except for my Fallows and the olive hen with the yellow wings witch I have yet to identify. Noone seems to know what mutation she is and it`s so frustrating. Have a great day! KBJ Edited January 12, 200817 yr by KBJ

Thanks; Lacewings are not as easy to get hold of as some mutations. And yes I have some Texas Clear Bodies, if you search you will see some articles on this forum with pictures of some of my birds. I really like the Opaline marked Yellow. Green series TCB’s I have bred 17 young birds this season & some splits. I like her Norm, care to give her to me Sorry Nerwen, I'm having trouble enough trying to get her to breed so that I can increase my Lacewings, her sister a Lutino, has already had three batches, whereas, she hasn't even entered the nest, I have put her back in the avairy for awhile to see if she will go down next time. I bought a more show type male, but so far his hen hasn't gone down eaither & I have worries that he wont be any good, as was a petshop cull. Edited January 12, 200817 yr by Norm

May 3, 200817 yr I have a few VERY similiar to that one. Is it definately a green or could it be a Yellow face type 2? I have some YF2 splangles which are very similar and if the yellow has gone through all the feathers it could well look mostly green in the body.
