before you post you must resize your pictures to the board regulations of 450x450 :D), it keeps the boards running smoothly, so for now the pictures have been turned into links.

Thanks guys!!! I thought Kiwi and Louie were both girlies but just wanted to double check. Kinda wished I got a boy and a girl but one acts a bit like a boy so a good substitute I s'pose!!

sometimes it is better that way especially if you are not keen on breeding or having babies. Accident clutches can be a diaster in most cases (but not all). I have always stuck with the same sex birds to avoid unwanted babies. .

Oh well I am happy with them both being girlies then in that case! They quarrel sometimes and Louie likes to pull Kiwi's tail when she is not looking and nip her feet but Kiwi is the boss being bigger and chases after her for a good telling off!! I heard females can be quite aggressive and a friend of mine said one of her females killed the other one whilst out of the cage!! Hopefully that will not happen with mine- is this common?

I think it happens when you breed and the females fight for the males or the nest boxes. Some budgies are more aggressive then others. I would watch them, just in case the fights get too serious.

I do but I think they are good friends because the bickering, although amusing to watch, has never been too serious and they seem to get one well most of the time chattering away to each other and sitting close together. FIngers crossed!!

The only time I have ever had two hens attack each other ( in my time owning hundreds of budgies ) has been fighting over possession of a nest box in the aviary. I think you will be fine under other circumstances

Thanks guys for your advice and help :ygbudgie: I think it must have been very unfortunate and rare for the two hens that my friend had that one was so aggressive that it pecked the other one to death (on the windowsill). Funnily enough, she said to me that mine looked very much like them! Turns out they got a male for the female after and the male was bullied rotten but did not get killed but lived in torment by her instead until I think they were seperated! Psycho budgie!!

if you find them bickering more too you can help control any hormones flying (especially in the spring season and summer because of the longer days is to make sure they are covered for at least 10-12 hours this helps during the hormonal stage for all budgies.

So the females dig holes (probably think they can nest in there :budgiedance: ) and then they fight over it. So I keep covering the holes .

When my budgies were colony breeding (which I would never do again) my females were intent on killing each other (dispite having more nest boxes than hens)... as a result some of them are missing toes etc... They seem to be fine now that there are no nest boxes, apart from small family fights (Laughing out loud)... I'm sure yours will be fine though. Good idea to fill the make shift nests (holes), they lay anywhere :budgiedance: maesie xxx

But the plaster is not too deep, so it would be very difficult for them to actually lay in there. But we will put some wood on the whole wall I think

Stinky girls...neither one of my boys bother with chewing just preening

Mine love to chew! I put some old cardboard wrapping paper tubes in through the cage bars and they chew on this taking it to bits. When on my shoulders they chew my clothes and earrings (not enough to adamage them though)

 

Funny thing was when I tied a new swing up with an elasticated string they had much more fun chewing the elasticated end of the string until the fabric on it eroded away. They chew on it constantly all the time like it is chewing gum or something- totally addicted!!

 

As for making nestboxes, mine rarely leave the top of their cage only to fly and have no desire to explore new surfaces or places in the room!!

Yes maybe, we have to try what is going to stop them . I have some mesh left and also some flat wood.

I just added a towel behind mine and it kept them from digging... although they enjoy trying to chew the towel...
