After Breeding?

Hi,

Im interested to get some feedback from everybody on what they do to their budgies once they finish breeding for the season. (Cage Breeding)

As the budgies are well worn out from bringing up young what is the best or preferred way to get them healthy and back to A1 condition.

Do you take out the cock bird first?

Do you give both Hen and Cock a good rest before introuding them back into an aviary?

Would appreciate any feedback

Thanks

Definately rest them .

I turn the box to stop the hen entering , once the young have moved to the nappy cage , I leave the cock and the hen in the cabinet for three days , then I put the cock back in the avairy if he is okay meaning strong enough , the hen I will then put into a nappy cage with the other hens that have been moved from the cabinets , here they will stay until I am happy that they are feeding properly and well nurished , Anywhere from one week to three depending on condition , Then into the avairy flights .

It depends on how it works. At times I have had to seperate the mothers from the chicks to stop her wanting to lay eggs again, I have had to seperate the fathers to stop them attacking, I have even had to remove a young chick herself as they were both attacking her. She has already learnt to crack seed, so she was fine.

In an ideal situation, I close off the nest box, and feed them up well. I often move the little ones to their own cages to let them socialise with others and play. I let the parents build up theit strength before i return them to the aviary.

I give them all some holiday time to let them get stronger, then I move them.

I rest mine too, along the same line of thinking as lonebudgie :D

I too rest the parents and keep the young in a separate cage for a while. This is to keep an eye on the parents health before allowing back into the flight.
