Posted December 28, 200717 yr Hi I have bought a pair of budgies from a different family and in March they will mate. I was wanting to know when i take the babies away from the mom and dad to start hand rearing? What food to feed the babies? Would this require more time to bring them up than just leaving the mom and dad to raise them? Thanks Timmy#50 www.timhastingsracing.co.uk
December 28, 200717 yr A baby budgie left for the parents to raise but handled daily by yourself will be a tame baby budgie. There is no real need to remove a baby from its parents.
December 28, 200717 yr Author okay thanks for the advice. Would you by any chance know the prices of budgies for sale as im only 15 and just starting as I like birds. Thanks Timmy#50 www.timhastingsracing.co.uk
December 29, 200717 yr okay thanks for the advice. Would you by any chance know the prices of budgies for sale as im only 15 and just starting as I like birds. Thanks Timmy#50 www.timhastingsracing.co.uk I am in Australia and you are in Scotland so I cannot advise prices for your budgies over there, but check your local newspaper to get prices from private breeders if you can.
December 29, 200717 yr Hi and welcome. I'm sure you'll find both the posts and members to be very helpfull... Watch out though, if you're just starting in birds, you WILL get addicted!!! :fear I could think of worse things to be addicted to though... enjoy!
December 29, 200717 yr Hi and welcome . And if I were you, I really would heed maesie's warning (Laughing out loud) :fear . You start with one budgie, then suddenly you have two, then seven (or more) then you just *have* to get a cockatiel and then an Indian ringneck....and it just keeps snowballing from there :fear .
December 29, 200717 yr yep yep definatly a good warning! my flock of 80+ budgies 13 cockatiels 2 lorikeets 5 lovebirds 1 sulfur cocky 1 galah and 8 quails all started from one budgie 8 years ago :fear

December 29, 200717 yr Author hi and thanks for all the welcomes and the warning. Scottie I converted that price to pounds and it does seem like a reasonable price range. Thanks for all the help I am really starting to enjoy this forum as it is so family like and helpfull. Thanks Timmy#50 www.timhastingsracing.co.uk
December 29, 200717 yr We have an excellent resource in the FAQ about purchasing from a breeder and from a pet shop under General Info. What I have found here in the states is that it is very very difficult to find budgies that have been handled when they have been in the nest so you may have really search to find what you are looking for (it may be different by you). If you find a breeder of budgies they and you are willing to be patient they may have some hens on eggs and be willing to handle them for you. In the states a ha$nd raised budge would be around 60.00 US not tamed around 15-20$.] Good luck and welcome to the forums.
March 1, 200817 yr Author hello everyone Just before my pair of budgies start to breed I was wanting to know how to get the ring that goes around there feet? Also how many eggs should I expect to get? Last question Where would I get a good quality nest box for them? I will get a picture of my two budgies to show you what they look like. Again thanks for any help and for your time reading this. Timmy#50 www.timhastingsracing.co.uk Thanks alot
