Posted December 21, 200717 yr hi all over the last few weeks one of our flock Tigger has been looking very ill. She has been seen on the floor of the aviry and sleeping most of the time. The only time she dosnt sleep is when she is eating or drinking. She has had 5 chicks this year. Unfortunatly one of the chicks (Sugar) died when he was only a few days old. When we first got her she was like this and we took her inside for a faw days and she felt better. Hope any of you can help me find out what is wrong with the little guy!! FRM toffeefluff

FRM toffeefluff Sorry to hear about little Tigger. I would do one of two things. I would personally take her to a vet. Birds are realy good at hiding their illnesses, so for you you to notice she can't be too good. Are you sure she's eating and drinking... try and feel her keel (breast bone) if it's really prominant, chances are she's not eating as well. Also check her bottom and smell it. Dirty bottoms is another sing of illness. Is she still raising her chicks? Your second option, if you cant get her to help asap, would be to bring her inside as you did when you first got her. Keep her warm and watch her closely. Good luck and keep us updated! maesie xxx
December 21, 200717 yr I agree your bird is not improving so she probably has something going on with her that only an avian vet can figure out for you. Keep us updated.
December 21, 200717 yr Maesie has given some very good advice. I wouldnt leave a bird on an aviary floor that looked like that as time is essential with ill birds. Best thing is first to bring it into a cage with a warm lamp for a start, where you can watch it and check it over for the signs Maesie has suggested, also for signs it is eating. Is your aviary ona soil floor and does it have an open roof area ? How long since the bird has been wormed ?
December 22, 200717 yr :ygbudgie: No, if Tigger is on the floor, that is not a good sign as they usually try and stay perched even when they are sick. Please take Tigger to the vet and let us know what happens.
December 23, 200717 yr Author hi thanks for all the replies tigger is not still caring for the chicks they are healthy and strong!!! Tigger hasnt been wormed and i noticed that her breast bone ,or round about that area , was quite big this afternoon She spends most of her time sleeping and i put some lettuce to see if she would eat it .i have seen her scuttling around with the others on the floor of the aviry so she wasnt on the floor alone. Lately she has been feeding and drinking well and hasnt been going on the floor very much thank you again for the advice!! Toffeefluff :yellowhead: :bluebudgie:
