Posted December 16, 200717 yr hi, I'm new to this forum and site and have a question. I'm sure you get many variations of questions but here goes. I have a fairly big cage and a breeding box in the corner with one cockateil and two budgies in it. The budgies are male and female, and the male keeps jumping on her back and wiggling and she does put her tail up but im not sure if anything is getting in if u know what i mean. He shows off alot and fluffs his feathers up, they also beak each other and he does the regurgitating into her mouth too. The thing is that puzzles me is that she doesn't show any interest in the breeding box at all. Is he doing this cos she is on heat and ready to mate, or is he just trying but she really has no interest, cos she participates with him but isn't keen on the breeding box. Also they don't seem bothered by the teil in there either. SARAH Edited December 17, 200717 yr by Daz spelling
December 16, 200717 yr Hi Sarah, Mating behaviour doesnt always mean babies as budgies have recreational sex too, just like people. Firstly, regardless of how well they all get along, if you want to breed your budgies remove the tiel for the duration of egg laying and raising chicks. Secondly are the budgies one year old or older and under 4-5 years ? Budgies dont come in heat like dogs or cats, but do come into a breeding condition state that basically means they are healthy enough and happy enough at that time to breed successfully.
