Double-jointed Budgie

Hi, I'm not a budgie owner but I decided to buy my Mum a budgie for Christmas which I did yesterday. I plan to budgiesit the budgie until Christmas next week. In the meantime, I've noticed budgie (he hasn't been named yet) seems to be double-jointed. When he climbs onto the sides of the cage he somehow pulls his head then his body through his legs without moving his feet. Is this normal? He didn't do this when we went to select a bird. When Mum used to keep budgies when we were kids I don't remember any of them doing this. And I've never noticed anyone else's budgies doing this.

Should I be worried :D or have I bought a talented bird? :)

Your input would be most appreciated.

:D Hi Gumleaf, this is a normal step in the behaviour of a new bird which we here like to call the "escape at all cost" time. The budgie will dig in the seed bowls, twisted themselves around, run back and forth on the floor of the cage and many other funny looking things. Staying calm around the cage and talking to him can help settle the bird down and move on from this.

It makes me cringe when budgies do that, but it is normal. :D Doesn't it look awfully uncomfortable!! :(Laughing out loud):

Thanks Nerwen & Bea. I was so worried I'd bought my mum a bodgy budgie  . Unless something else weird happens between now and Christmas I probably won't be back to this website. If I don't have a great Christmas. Thanks again.

Hi Gumleaf  My budgies do it all the time - it does look very freeky :(Laughing out loud):
