December 28, 200717 yr Author Could anyone tell me how to keep my flock cool, it is 36 degrees at present and in the next day or so up to 40 degrees. I have placed them under the outside umbrella (they are outside budgies) also have placed an extra 3 lots of water at various spots in the cage. I am wondering if I should be doing anything else. The cage is 1 metre (long) by 2 metres (tall) and 1/2 metre (wide), with wire all over, just a big open cage. I bought it thinking it would be great for the budgies (outside) however I have been told the cage was ment for inside, therefore I am unable to give them a light shower as the cage would rust. Hoping for some suggestions re this heat. Thanks in advance.
December 29, 200717 yr Hey there... It's also warm here too!!! I have an outside avairy and do a few things to help them out. They have their water bowl, a shallow dish with leaves (native) in it to encourage bathing, I've just added a shade cloth over the avairy, and I spray them with a water spray. I wouldn't worry to much about rust... maybe give the cage a good clean after the hot weather is over. They'll love a light sprinkle of water I'm sure. Just keep them in the shade...How many budgies do you have again? can they be brought inside? in another cage? I guess you've just got to find a happy medium between not creating extra stress and providing relief where possible. Good Luck :hap: Edited December 29, 200717 yr by maesie
December 29, 200717 yr Author Hi Maesie, Thanks for the hints, it is too big to bring inside however I will damp down a beach towel and drape it over the cage. It is very windy today as well which also creates a problem. I have 7 budgies in my flock. 2 Blue, 1 Grey with a yellow head, 1 Yellow, 1 Green, 1 mauve and one white with a touch of powder blue. If you look in my signature you will see 5 of them the grey and the green would not oblige when I tried to get them all on the one perch.

(Laughing out loud)... mine don't like to sit still for photos either. :fear The wet towel is also a good idea. I know a few members also do it on smaller cages. Good luck and I hope the comming days don't get as hot as predicted. I also thought a cool change was due this arvo, but no change as yet grr :fear Your birds are cute as too
