hello all, i have a problem with one of my budgies. i have two in the same cage. the feathers around her bum seem to be covered in poop and some poop is also HANGING, it looks very untidy and dirty. she seems to be okay other wise . has any body seen this before and if so what is it and how do i make it good again?

I'm no expert, so I'd wait for some more posts... however, a dirty bum can sometimes be a sign of illness. She may look okay, but they often hide things VERY well. If it was me, I'd try to clean up her bum a litle and keep a very close eye on her. Also try smelling it ((Laughing out loud)... nice I know), this can also be an indication of something wrong. If it doesn't change, I'd suggest a visit to the vet. Have you changed her diet? sometimes this can change her poop but I've never had it stick to their bums before...Is she eating and drinking okay? Hope this helps

Just backing up Maesie's advice here. Poopy bottom is a sign of illness. You must wash it as Maesie has suggested and also smell it. If it smells then there is a bacterial infection going on too. While you are holding the bird, check its keelbone ( chestbone )....if it seems to protrude and you feel the sharp ridge of the bone and it isnt well covered....then the bird is losing weight. Weight loss goes hand in hand with poopy bottoms and things can go rapidly wrong from there on. You need to know why the poopy bottom and if there is also weight loss you need quick answers and quick results. Maybe only a vet can help you. But do the checking as advised and get back to us. Any photos of your bird ?
