February 7, 200817 yr Author I'm getting a new camera today so I'm sure I'll be testing it out tonight and will post new pics... I think Tinsel is still looking like a hen and Frost is looking like a male... Â Tinsel is already weaned and doing well in the nursery, awaiting her little brother to join her in a few weeks. In the mean time, the parents (Duke & Duchess) have gone to nest again and currently have 3 egg already. Frost is in the foster nest still and has all his feathers now, I expect him to fledge within the week. Â These pictures are of Frost taken a week ago. The splayed legs has been corrected. February 8, 200817 yr Tinsel is a girl I would say. Looks like a hen. Around the nostrils. Will be a great hen if it is! Very nice first round. thanks for the updates and pics.
February 8, 200817 yr Author Here is Frost at 30 days old, who just fledged from the nest last night. Â Â Â And here is an update on Tinsel, at 44 days old. Â Â Â And Duke & Duchess have been busy laying round 2: Â
February 9, 200817 yr Good luck and they look good.:hap: Frost is very cute.. and you know I love tinsel
February 14, 200817 yr Author looks like she's stopped at 5 eggs... 1, 3 & 4 are fertile for sure... 2 I'm uncertain about (I haven't candled it yet but it's almost twice the size of the others).. and egg 5 is unknown. First egg is due to hatch in 4 days. Â I split up the foster pair (Dusk & Dawn) as she was comming out of breeding condition and not interested in another round after the chick is already in the nursery. I've already cleaned out the cage and placed another pair (Zeus & Lady) which were in season to try and see if they work out together. (grey green split cinn cock and cinn sky hen)

February 16, 200817 yr Author I have been trying to figure out exactly what the difference is between him and my other grey greens in body color.. he's MUCH darker in color, he stands out from the others in the aviary.
February 16, 200817 yr I have been trying to figure out exactly what the difference is between him and my other grey greens in body color.. he's MUCH darker in color, he stands out from the others in the aviary.  I don’t think he’s a Grey Green, as Grey Greens should have a Grey check patch & his is Blue. He could be an Olive, but as I said he looks very similar to the birds I have that they are calling Dusks…some of the young I have in the nest from my Dusks, that are feathering up just look like Grey Greens at this stage, two Blue series young also looked much like Violets, but sadly the two oldest ones have already died, as one fell from the nest early & was bitten in the head by another bird, the other died shortly after being put in the aviary. His colour especially looks good in the first picture, extremely deep colour.
February 16, 200817 yr What where his parents do you know? If he is not a dusk like Norm said I would say he has 2 dark factors which are causing his green to be so dark which again as Norm said is an Olive budgie. Olives have dark blue cheek patches and black tail feathers. What color are his? They look black in the photo. Â The 3rd budgie on this page is has 2 dark factors: http://www.budgieplace.com/c_darkfactor.html Edited February 16, 200817 yr by Elly
February 16, 200817 yr norm, are you colony breeding? If not, how is it possible to get bitten in the head by aother bird?
February 16, 200817 yr norm, are you colony breeding? If not, how is it possible to get bitten in the head by aother bird? Â I fostered the young to a pair in an aviary, but there was still their last batch of young with them [which I have found is very dangerous] they seem to be especially aggressive to other birds. They should be removed as soon as possible after fledging. Â Dave I hoped no one was going to ask that question.
February 18, 200817 yr Author the cheek patches from Zeus are actually a very very dark grey, almost black... they aren't blue or even a dark blue. But he is darker than my other grey greens... maybe greygreen with dark factors? Â They have been in the nestbox and hen is throwing out the bedding so should have eggs soon Edited February 18, 200817 yr by Ravengypsy

February 19, 200817 yr very pure line of greens for sure I would say he would be a grey green especially if you are saying his check patches are grey and he may have 2 dark factors too along with it.
