turned into links as they are over the board guidelines of 450x450, thank you for understanding

The dad is a dominant pied spangle so that explains the markings on the chick and often when one of the parents is ino ( like the mother ) you get a chick that is paler like yours. I dont know how or why that works out with genetics, I just know as it has happened with similar pairings of mine. Your chick will colour up more after its first moult.

the first is a male greywing, the other is a hen i think and pied spangle.

how can you tell they are spangle, since i can't see the normal spangle markings in the baby or dad? this is a good one I've not seen before.

The top of the dads wings show spangle

when there is dominant pied spangles their spangle patterning shows like this.

and although the photo showing the baby doesnt show these markings clearly, Shaun assures us there is feint spangle markings as well. When babies these dom pied spangles markings are much lighter and come in later.

Like these dominant pied spangle youngsters of mine

thanks for those new pics of pied spangles... how pretty they are! and now that I know what to look for I can see the markings though faint. Saved those pics for future comparisons as I do have dom pieds and spangles in my aviary and never know when it'll show up :(
