Posted November 30, 200717 yr I have a determined budgie hen who has squeezed her way through the entrance of a finch nest box, and has laid and is sitting on 5 eggs. I don't mind her breeding in the box, as the finches have never used it, and it is quite roomy(almost as big as my budgie boxes, except the hole being smaller), but, every time I let budgies breed in the aviary, the whole clutch never makes it to fledging(not sure why, possibly wild mice(even though I try to keep them away), or maybe the hens fight over the clutch/nest). Which is why I now use cabinets for breeding. So I'm wondering if I was to move the pair, nest box with eggs, out of the aviary and into a cabinet, will she keep sitting? She's raised chicks before in a cabinet. Or, I just leave them in the aviary and hope for the best.
