Posted November 28, 200717 yr This is Faith and Splodge (not the first picture, these are two hens) They had a clutch of two already and she was laying before the first two fledged. Second time around, she laid seven eggs and they all hatched! :fear She is the lutino in the first picture, Pretty is one of my favourite girls. Pretty has had two clutches also, first was one baby, 2nd she has two in the box, not long til they fledge This is Splodge. He is a dominant pied mauve. You cant see in the pics, but he has the white round spot on the back of his head (a splodge of white ) hence his name. He is a great daddy and has been very supportive to Faith and their large family. I think he has actually lost some condition looking after such a large family. They will also not be breeding again for at least 6 months. This is Splodge in the middle with Sylvester the green on the left and Lemon on the right. This is their family about a week ago. and again just today (what I could get in the shot) And here are five of their babies. I just took pics of the oldest five, I will take pics of the youngest two when they start to colour more
November 28, 200717 yr A mixed bag of very cute young ones Very cute babies there!!! Isn't it great when the parents raise their babies so well. I hope all goes well when they venture out of the nest box and into the 'unknown' :fear
November 28, 200717 yr Oh gosh.. they're so CUTE!!!! All babies are cute but there's something about baby budgies, with their tiny beaks and fluffy bodies. I love them! Youve got beautiful colours there!! Well done!! Congratulations!
November 28, 200717 yr Author Thank you I love all the mix of colours, of course, being colony bred, there could be another daddy involved, who knows. I have only left two babies in the adult aviary so far, as they fledged and were very independent and there were no hassles. I have a baby budgie aviary though now, so as soon as they fledge and I see they are eating seed, they will be transferred out of the "adult world". Yes, Pretty my pied hen is one of my favourite birds. She just looks so big and strong and doesnt harass anyone or take cr#p from anyone either She has only had small clutches, but I dont care, I would rather her have one or two babies and be healthy and just grace my aviary with her beauty than worry about her not being a big breeder. One of Faith's babies looks a lot like Pretty to me........fingers crossed I have been so lucky with my first time breeding with some wonderful parents, wonderful colours and healthy babies.
