How Many Can I Fit?

Hi all,

All this reading about birds has made me want to get more :( .

My current avairy is two joined together to make an 'L' shape. Each avairy is

1.5 (width) X 0.75 (depth) and 1.8 (height)... so total length is 3m. Plus safety door on the end.

How many budgies can I keep in an avairy of this size. Currently I am breeding so it is divided up for the breeding pairs, but if I do not wish to breed in the future, can I just not provide breeding boxes or do I need to separate males and females??? What happens if they start laying???

I'm also keen to get some cockateils... I've been reading that they should be kept separete from budgies... if this was the case, I would devide the above avairy in half. How many of each could I keep in 1.5x0.75x1.8. I don't have the money or the space to extend, so any ideas would be awsome... best not to get to excited if it's not feasable

Thanks all :o

How many budgies can I keep in an avairy of this size. I would say around 35 to 40 with no nestboxes

or do I need to separate males and females??? NO What happens if they start laying??? you will always find eggs on the ground from silly birds, but you wont have to worry too much if there are no nestboxes or anything that looks like a place to lay eggs

Thanks for that. I didn't realise it could fit that many!!! So the six I currently have would be thinking they are living it up at the Hilton!!! :D

Do you know any good sites for info on Cockateils? I want to read up on them. I'll also be waiting for my budgies to stop breeding before I make any mega changes!!! Also, Would you get 'pairs' of cockateils? or one sex?

Thanks again Kaz

I like these sites :D

I have 4 cockatiels living together - 3 males, 1 female (for now :o ) and I never had any prblems with them.

The aviary looks good.

Thanks for that. Will spend some time looking at those sites. Yeah, my avairy is great. Can't wait to expand my flock. I've never had cockateils before but always thought they were beautiful!!! Need to do that research first :(
