Posted November 22, 200717 yr I thought you guys might get a laugh out of this. Because it has been nice and warm in Melbourne (lets not count yesterday or today) I have been putting my budgies in their cage outside on our undercover patio (Thank God the stand has wheels!) If I place it just right then about a quarter of the cage gets direct late afternoon sun. A couple of times I have come home and found them clinging to the side of the cage in the sun so I move the perches around and put on in that area so they can sit in the sun if they want. I came home the other day to find Harley sitting in the sun on the perch like a normal bird but Blue was hanging upside down (I swear that he is part bat!) directly underneath Harley with his tail feather in Harleys face. Every now and then Blue would wiggle his butt and hit Harley in the face, Harley would voice his objection to this and stomp on one or both Blues feet, Blue would scream, dangle from one leg and flap his wings then settle back into hanging upside down. A few minutes later the whole thing would happen again. I still don't think that Blue being upside down for over an hour is a good thing but he seems happy, I have lost count of the times that my sister and I have gotten worried about him and MADE him perch upright. Another funny thing he does is I have one plain dowel perch in my cage (more cause Harley loves destroying them then anything else) Blue sits on it then it looks like he is going to fall off forwards but he just swings around till he is hanging upside down rocks a bit and then he resets and does it again! I am telling you he is part Bat!

November 23, 200717 yr How hilarious!!! Some birds do like being upside down..... kinda makes you wonder why! *L*
November 23, 200717 yr That sounds so funny! I know what you mean about thinking your bird is part bat. My first budgie Pip used to spend half his time upside down - he had a dangling mirror toy in his cage and he used to hang upside down from the roof of his cage and look at himself and chatter away to the mirror. I swear sometimes he used to even doze off upside down sometimes. Holly on the other hand only hangs upside down if I put one of his toys on top of his cage and even then he'll try and sit on a perch and stretch up to reach it rather than go upside down - I guess some birds like being the wrong way up more than others!
