Posted November 14, 200717 yr On Sunday, a top show breeder and friend was splitting up his breeding pairs and offered me some eggs. He had some fertile eggs under some pairs and wanted me to have them. He raced them over ( 10 min trip ) and we put ten eggs under two different hens. The first were to be due in a week. BUT the first hatching came only the next day and we have had a chick a day in that nest since. Two more eggs to go in that nest. The hen I put them under was sitting on five of her own but they were clear, so I threw hers out and gave her the five new eggs. She is a very happy little hen now she has babies to care for. It was a very generous thing for this show breeder to do for me and I am very grateful.
November 14, 200717 yr very interesting did he tell you the parents mutation and history or will it be a surprise?
November 14, 200717 yr Author very interesting did he tell you the parents mutation and history or will it be a surprise? I have their history. The new hatchings belong to a pair of spangles split lutinos I think. He expects DF Spangles and maybe a lutino ( so far three dark eyes chicks, maybe a plum eye in there ) The other eggs are all clearwings. Maybe some violet clearwings.
November 14, 200717 yr I will be watching with antisapation,to see photos of these chicks,in 4or 5 weeks Kaz. :grbud: I hope you can score a show bird or 2 out of them. The spangle/lutino pair, will be interested to see the result from that pair. Not a pairing I would use.But you can, learn something new every day,in this budgie game.

I checked the records of the parents of those eggs. Cock is spangle split lutino and the hen is DF spangle. So it looks like I will get all spangles and maybe a lutino if a red eyed chick appears from the last two eggs. So far the three chicks are dark eyed.
November 14, 200717 yr Kaz, I have ran a check on the Spangle/lutino Xdouble factor Spangle. 25% DF Sangle/ ino cock 25% Spangle/ino cock 25% Ino DF Spangle hen, 25% Ino Spangle. hen.
