Posted November 10, 200717 yr I just wondered if someone could tell me if this cock is a Yellowface type 2 blue greywing? He is currently paired with an Albino hen who is sitting on 5 eggs (sorry if that's not the correct pairing, my husband put them together as we are only breeding to increase our flock he wanted to experiment with colors?) Sorry they're not the best of photos everytime he sees me coming with the camera he goes and hides in the nest box.
November 10, 200717 yr Hi Denise, I am hopeless when it comes to budgie mutations etc, but I love to experiment with different coloured birds when breeding. I didn't know there was a code to breed by? Is there any types that shouldn't be mixed? - gulp! I normally pick the two most different birds I can find, and pair them up. I try and breed for colour, and I have to say, the lady in my local pet shop loves it when I take my highly coloured babies into her to sell. All the best with your new clutch. Liv
November 10, 200717 yr Your bird looks like a Yellow Faced Blue Spangle…it might be type 2 as you say, but I don’t see much bleed of Green into the body colour. Unless he is split for Albino or any Ino, you wont get Red Eyed chick, but all the young cocks you breed will be split for Albino [carry it] & when bred later will produce Albino hens. Most of your chicks should be Blue & about 50% YF. Spangle is Dominant too, so about 50% of the chicks will be Spangle.
November 10, 200717 yr He's a beautiful boy :fear Looks like type one to me PS and spangle not greywing Edited November 10, 200717 yr by KAZ
November 10, 200717 yr he is a gorgeous bird, do you have a front shot of him? He wouldn't be a greywing his marking are too dark. I agree with Norm
November 10, 200717 yr I had a Greywing Spangle & didn’t realise it till I mated it to a Greywing & all the chicks turned out Greywing. But your birds markings seem too strong for Greywing.
November 10, 200717 yr Agree with norm. I didn't know there was a code to breed by? **Liv** - it depends on why you are breeding. If it is simply to enjoy your flock and the joy of breeding then you can pick what ever mix you want (or let the birds pick) many show breeders don't like to put certain colours or mutations together for many reasons, such as the combination of the gene removes some of the features needed for that mutation in the show ring.
