Posted November 3, 200717 yr We have been bird sitting this bird for the last 3 weeks and have just found out that we will have him for another 6 weeks so I have put him in the aviary instead of his small cage. Problem is that his owner wanted to cut his wings, but after cutting one didn't like the way it looked so left the other one, so he can't fly properly and tends to go in a circle and loses his balance. How long until the cut wing grows back. Also would someone be able to tell me what sort of budgie his is? He is also a very large bird. His wings have a slate/bluish color on them and his eyes are plum. I though he was a grey wing but not sure.
November 3, 200717 yr His wing feather wont grow back, till he goes through the mault & he looks to be a fellow,
November 3, 200717 yr I would advise her that she needs to get his other wing clipped because this is dangerous especially since you put him now in the aviary where he will attempt to fly more. As macka said the clipped wings will molt out and he may be fully flighted again within the next 2 molts (sometimes 1 molt will do it). Again, ask her if you can have the other one clipped for safety at this point vs cosmetic reasons. As for the type of bird he is he is beautiful. What color are his eyes? Are they red?

I may just take him to the vet to have the other one clipped anyway.
November 4, 200717 yr You can of course pull one or two feathers at a time over a week or more. Of course it probably has some pain for the bird, but then the feathers will be replaced in approximately two weeks. I also think it’s a Fallow.
November 4, 200717 yr He is absolutely stunning!I can't help you with genetics though! How handsome he looks!
