To be surer....about age 3-5 months

Wanted to share with you some happy family snaps I took this morning.

 

All three bubs very happy and healthy...making lots of noise and demanding lots of food from their Mum!!

 

They are 5 weeks old tomorrow...I think they will be out of the nest box any day now!!

They always look cute at that stage looking out through the entrance. They must be getting spoilt by Mum & Dad 5 weeks & still at home.

Mum yes - Dad no. Mum spends all her time eating, just so she can feed the chicks. Dad used to feed Mum in the begginning, but isn't so much anymore and I've never seen the Dad feed the chicks. Personally, I think she's the one doing all the work. But she's doing a good job, maybe he thinks he isn't required!!!

 

Waiting for them to fledge is so frustrating...they nearly go, then stop...nearly go, then stop.....they are going to slip very soon I'm sure!

OMG they are soooooooooooooooo cute!!! I had a few clutches two years ago and it was so exciting. Some of the babies from them are now having babies... so it all starts again. Good Luck with your new babies!!!

My first baby has fledged....I have named her (i think her) "Baby"...because she's adorable and my first :-)

I know she is cinnamon and that's why I think she is a 'she'. Is that correct? And she looks pied, but is she dominant or recessive? And would she be called a 'cremino'? She looks like a real mixed bag to me...that's why she's so cute!!

Yes your Cinnamon baby must be a hen; her Dad must be split for Cinnamon. She is not a Creamino, as that is a Yellow Faced Albino [ino]. As to whether she is Dominant or Recessive, I think she looks like Dominant, so that would mean that Mum is masking Dominant Pied with her Lutino. You can’t tell without breeding what Albino or Lutinos are masking. [Their true genetical colour]. If she is Recessive that would mean that both are carrying the Recessive gene.

 

So I think she is Cinnamon winged, Dominant Pied, Yellow Face Blue. I think Cobalt even though you can’t see much Blue. See what others think about the D or R Pied.

Now we're just waiting for Cosmo...he doesn't want to leave home yet.

 

I think something quite strange is happening, in the aviary I have two nesting boxes, because there are two adult pairs, however the other adult pair, have not 'paired' up, so the 2nd nest box is empty. The Mum of the current babies is spending a lot of time in the 2nd nest box...could she be starting her next clutch before her other babies have all fledged?

 

Also, does the little yellow dot on the back of Buzz (and his Dad's) head mean anything?

I have reviewed your post and your pictures of your babies are so so cute especially the nesting box babies and this last one you posted

 

The spot on the back of the head "usually" means they are a dominant pied (my Merlin is a dominant pied in my siggy) he has a big spot on the back of the head. There is now talk and I know Kaz has confirmed that a very small spot could mean that the the bird is split to recessive pied instead of being a dominant pied.

 

Being that both the birds have it I would say it would indicate a dominant pied but let us see what others say. .

And finally...we have COSMO!!

Quick question.... didnt someone mention earlier in these posts that the mother shows through cinnamon and to produce a cinnamon baby the father had to be split also which he obviously was.... so my question is... wouldn't that mean that the cinnamon baby could be of either sex?

We are thinking that the Mum is a Lutino, but seeing she is a Lutino she could be masking Cinnamon, so as you rightly say, if that was the case it could be of either sex...I told her that the chick would be hen, but that was thinking that the hen wasn't Cinnamon, if the chick turned out a cock, that would prove that she [the mother] was a Cinnamon.

oh the fun of guessing genetics of a bird well from what i can see it looks like it's got cinnamon spangled markings on the upper half of it's wing.... so unless it is a fallow dominant pied like KAZ said i'd just call it s spangled lace wing masking dominant pied? but then again you're the expert norm :hap: hehe look forward to seeing the sexing of this bub it's gorgeous

Hi All,

 

Just a note to say that this gorgeous couple have laid another clutch, this time 5 eggs. They had such pretty babies last clutch, I'm very excited that they have laid again.

 

I will post photos when they bubs arrive.

 

I also have two blue spangles in my aviary, they have paired up and laid 3 eggs in another next box. This is their first clutch, so will also be very interesting to see the result.

The new babies have not hatched yet! :-) There are piccies of the first clutch babies earlier in the post. They were a mixed bunch, so I'm very excited about the new clutch. I will definitely post pics when they start to colour up.

Oh my, such beautiful babies. i'll take baby any day.
