Hello all!

My name is Steph, I'm a Victorian, and in my senior years of highschool.

Billie is my baby budgie, who is seven weeks old this Saturday, and doesn't often leave my shoulder (where he is sitting right now). He is absolutely gorgeous, maybe a little too cheeky for his own good! :)

This is the quiet Billie on the computer desk spying on emails...

And this is the cheeky Billie pulling pens out of a pencil case! :P

Nah, he's well behaved and the most gorgeous budgie I have ever known!

Looks like a fantastic forum, and I look forward to posting more and getting to know fellow budgie-lovers!

Hey there, Billie and Steph ...Happy to have you here :P

Billie is a real cutie and doing so well. I'll bet he is a real character too.

I think you will find he is older than 7 weeks though.....not a baby budgie at all. He seems to be a Golden Face mauve from what I can tell on the photos and he has been through his first moult and has a blue cere, so that would make him at least 5 months old.

Look forward to hearing more from you and seeing more of your photos.

Cheers Karen :)

Hi!

Thanks for the replies!

KAZ, thanks for the info! I'll admit I had some suspisions...

He has been incredibly easy to tame and train, which made me think he may have been as young as the breeder claimed he was, but given the colour of his cere and other factors that I have noticed makes me wonder.

I don't know a whole lot about budgies, though, so I appreciate the info! :)

Considering he is around 5 months or older you are doing very well to have tamed him as he seems to be right now. You have created that special bond already and its all positive from here on. Many petshops and bird dealers sell older budgies as babies, especially if they clip their wings and they cannot fly...its easy to say they are younger when someone doesnt know.

But not to worry, you seem to have won Billie over and all is good. Glad you are here. :P

Thanks, KAZ.

Although, on the other hand, I have reasons to believe he truly is 7 weeks old.

I believe he has matured a bit early, but is 7 weeks all the same.

It is probably hard to tell through photographs, but I think he is definitely a baby.

Thanks again for the info, and the friendly welcome, though!

Billie has a "broken cap" which is no baby bars from the cere back. That and the fact he has his full colour ( the golden face and the bleed of colour from the mauve and yellow bleed of colour into that making it greenish looking ) makes him past his first moult. The blue cere also comes in at that time. They don't go through all of that at 7 weeks.******Here is a baby budgie at 7 weeks the same as yours would have looked at that age ( same colour too ) april0732.jpg

and now at 7 months AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA196.jpg

Notice the barring above the cere and cere colour at 7 weeks. And the colour change that comes with a moult...gone from golden face with grey looking body to a greenish look to the body.

Hey Steph,

We have a Budgie of the Month competition every month for all your cute photos. So look through ones you have or start snapping and give it a try. Looks like Billie has personality plus :)

Hi, welcome :)

you have quite the little handsome fellow there, what a cutie.

(Laughing out loud), thanks birdluv!! Aww, you made Billie blush!! :(Laughing out loud):

Thanks for the information and pics, KAZ! Appreciate it! And I'll look into the competition too!

I would say Billie, has been in training at some one else place. He looks very

tame.If he is siting on your shoulder, that would`nt happen over night & to be

removeing pens from the pencel case.I think billie might be old enough to be

called bill. :)

Welcome Billie and Steph, hope you enjoy this fabulous site. :)

Hi Steph and Billie,

welcome to the BBC forum. I look forward to getting to know you both better. Your Billie sounds as cheeky as my little cereal thief, Kazumi.

I agree with the above replies, Billie is definitely over 5 months of age and probably under 7 years  It is really hard, without a ring on a leg to guess the age of a budgie that has already been through it's first moult. That isn't important though, as you have got a great bond with him regardless of his age.

I'm looking forward to more photos :D
