October 29, 200717 yr Have you a closer clearer photo Briony ? Also have you checked it flight feathers. Does it have all its flights on wings and tail ? How old is it ? Is it moulting ? Cheers karen
October 29, 200717 yr Hi Briony, It looks like it could be a boy, but it looks like it has a brown mark down the middle of the cere. A closer photo of the cere would be helpful. Feathers.
October 29, 200717 yr I copied your photo to my computer and did a close up of the cere. It looks a bit like a hen that has had a crusty brown cere and that has peeled off to reveal a hen out of breeding condition. Also the wing flights on the right hand side are either cut or broken. If broken its a possible case of a french moult budgie. But closer and better photos would help and also if you can examine the budgie's flights and give us some more info. But a very nice looking budgie
October 30, 200717 yr Author the cere has now gone completely bluehe can sort of flutter but he cant pick himself up off the ground he has to launch himself off something than has a stack. The right wing looks alittle funny to me compared to my other budgies, but im no expert on them :0 also what is a french moult? thanks for the reponseshe also has a gold tag http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee247/r...CF0122small.jpg Also, i had him in the cage with my other two and he and the female had a little tiff, nothing major so i took him out and have him in a cage on his own, do you guys think thats the best thing for him? Thanks Edited October 30, 200717 yr by Briony

Thanks Can we have another clearer set of photos Briony ? and of the cere ? Use your macro setting on your camera for closeups. Does the goldring have 07 written on it at all ? If so last years bred bird. French moult is a bird with "feather issues" .....often a reason you find good looking show bred birds in petshops or bird dealers. They would be culled from a breeders stock. When did you get the new budgie ? Have you quarantined it ? If not, it shouldnt be in with your existing budgies anyway for at least 30 days. Quarantine is vitally important for the health of all your birds.
October 30, 200717 yr Author okay Heres some more i took today when i let him/her out in a bedroom http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee247/r...ure008small.jpg http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee247/r...ure005small.jpg http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee247/r...ure002small.jpg
October 30, 200717 yr I am still undecided on the sex as I have seen out of condition hens look like that. But the "look" of it says boy budgie. It is a very, very nice budgie regardless of any issues. It is a grey green cinnamon normal too by the way, Briony. The right wing seems to have broken feathers which happens when a french moult budgie tries to grow in new feathers. And, like yours, it can happen to just one side, one wing etc. BUT it could also have been damaged when caught for sale. Time will tell. If you notice feathers breaking and bleeding, go straight to our FAQ section where there are instructions to pull out the shaft of a bleeding broken blood feather. Just telling you in case of an emergency as french moulters ( if it is ) have that problem and then they bleed everywhere and it must be dealt with quickly when it happens. Quarantine, Briony ? Does this gorgeous one have a name yet ?
October 30, 200717 yr I would say,a out of condition hen.I would worm it,for a start & some high protine food & keep it by itself, till its back in condition.
October 30, 200717 yr Author thanks Guys, whats the best way to worm them? I have to do my other birds anyway so this weekend looks like a good time to do them all.It looks Like she, he as a feather om the right wing that may have been cut. Ill keep an eye on the wings and hopefully nothing bad will happen espescially if im at work Do you think she,he may fly once its healed? do you think the fact its a biter could definatly indicate a hen? as my blue male doesnt bite half as much.....Thanks Guys Briony Also What sort of food should i be feeding it/ at the moment its the same as the others a plain budgie mix with xome fruit, shell grit etcthanks again Edited October 30, 200717 yr by Briony
October 30, 200717 yr I still think its a hen out of condition as a lot of mine look like that when out of condition. Worming is done via a worming liquid/syrup put into their water over a few days (3-5 days depending on brand and dosage on the bottle ). Dont give them any other source of water during that time...no bath water, no fruit or vegies. Your diet for the birds seems fine. Try them with soft food, soaked seed, and vegies ( but not during worming ). Re the feather thing. .....time will tell. Must be more going on than just one feather to cause a flying issue though. November 2, 200717 yr Author Have been letting it out in a bedroom every couple of days, and i think its starting to fly better but it cant really pick itself up yet it sort of jumps and flutters if that makes sense. if it is a french moult can i breed it still or will it pass the diesese on? should i leave it in its own cage permantly or put it in with the others? its names cinny by the way :0
