Gypsy and Tommy have also laid their next lot of eggs. She has laid 7 this time around and has two babies. I will have pics of their babies to post tonight also.

Yes she is, she had five eggs last time with four babies, so that wasnt so bad. She's a very dedicated mum and after this lot will be getting a long well earned rest Tommy is a great daddy too. He looks after her and the babies very well, so it's good she has a supportive partner

Smudges had four babies this time, Ive just finished cleaning out her box, cause she is a very messy mum, although still a good one. I also had to clean up her babies "knees" a little. Gypsy has had 6 babies this time round! They are all doing well too. No need to clean up after her (Laughing out loud). I also have five new jellybeans in my big aviary, 3 to one hen, 2 to another. The one with 2 only had one baby last time, and the one with 3 had two. Those guys are all doing great too

I have to say I'm pretty tickled actually. This time I am actually hoping it IS a hen. I have a nice cinnamon sky blue cock for further down the track when she is old enough. I cant wait for more of her colouring to come in now! I think all my babies are gorgeous, but seeing I have been looking for a cinnamon violet to buy and for this baby to just pop up, I have to admit to being quite chuffed

Sunnie, from the fact that it is Cinnamon, you know already that it will be a hen, as the only way you can get a Cinnamon from that pair is if the cock is split Cinnamon & with Cinnamon being what they call a sex linked mutation, he can only throw hens.

 

If you later mate it with a non Cinnamon cock, you wont get any Cinnamons, as a Cinnamon hen can only throw cocks that are split for Cinnamon, but don’t show it visually. To get Cinnamons from her, if that’s what you want you would have to mate her to a split Cinnamon cock or a Cinnamon one.

I could risk a guess that maybe she had played with Cloudy, but they are a pretty tight foursome and Cloudy has mated with Smudges and their babies only have the tiniest of cinnamon on their wings, they are mostly white babies and she has cinnamon on her.

It’s quite possible if you have them breeding in an aviary with other birds that the hen may have mated with another if you have a Cinnamon cock. They may look very faithful, but they are not against having a little on the side.

 

This other pair that you talk about, that has mostly white babies…are you saying that Cloudy is Cinnamon & his mate Smudges is Cinnamon also? If the babies are White with Cinnamon wings, they would be Lacewings…is that what you are saying?

They are mostly white with just little smudges on the ends of their wings, it's barely noticeable. This is Smudges, the hen. I guess Cloudy her mate would have to have some cinnamon gene for them to have any cinnamon on them at all, but they are mostly all white and he has no visible cinnamon.

This is a picture of their last clutch. As you can see, it's only the youngest who has any real amount of cinnamon on it.

Oh, they are a foursome on their own, so the only possible mates for Gypsy are Tommy who she is pictured with or Cloudy, who is Smudges mate and he is a sky blue recessive pied.

I think you guys might be right about the cinnamon violet. Her colour is starting to show more and she looks more like a violet every day! I'm crossing my fingers and not really believing my luck
