Posted October 18, 200717 yr I was trying to find out how it works with ringing chicks in my country. I'm thinking about ringing my chicks, so when they go to their new homes and they get lost or something (and someone finds them), I would know if it's my bird and I could find the person whom I sold the chick to. I contacted a company which makes and sells rings and they said I can ring them even when I don't belong to any club. The rings would have country mark, a year, a number and I could have some symbols on it too, so I know it's a bird from me (I thought about my initials+2 numbers). And they said ringed birds sell better, as the buyers can be sure how old the bird is and where it comes from. I'm just thinking if I should do it or not. I've read a lot about birds getting caught in something by the ring and twisting their leg, etc. What do you think guys? Should I ring them or is it better not to. Thanks a lot for any suggestions PS: The color for next year here is blue and the rings are so cheap :hap:
October 18, 200717 yr Most of my birds have legrings. I have only ever had two get caught up in the aviary by their legrings, but that was due to a peice of wire sticking out that I should have paid more attention to...no injuries thank goodness. :hap: Two hens have had to have their legrings cut off. But mostly their are no issues. YES people do like to buy birds with rings due to knowing exactly their age, so in that way, its a good thing. It also tells someone that you are a responsible breeder and that they can contact you
October 18, 200717 yr Author Thank you Kaz, I think I will order some later, if I start breeding :hap: . Are they easy to cut off in emeregency (without hurting the leg)? They are made from aluminium I think.

October 18, 200717 yr Author That's cool, I hope I can get them here. Or I will test what cuts it the best before I put it on a budgie
October 18, 200717 yr I have seen the cutters advertised, but have never seen or used one, without the cutters it's very difficult to cut them off without hurting the bird.
