Posted October 16, 200717 yr Hi there,,,, Can some one help me with cage info pls...... What size cage should i get for 1, possibly 2 budgies ? Im going to start off with one budgie, and later on may get a 2nd..... I definitely wont be getting more than 2 though.... Ive been reading that its better to get a wider cage rather than a higher cage... is that correct ? When i asked this question to several different pet shops, they alll said its not better to have a wider cage ..... I think they dont really know what they are on about, and just want to sell me any old cage...... Anyway, if some one could give me the dimensions for a cage that willl be okay for 1 or 2 budgies...... Bare in mind, this cage is going to spend most of its time indoors, so i dont want something too big......... Just something that will keep one, maybe 2, budgie(s) happy cheers Jason Edited October 16, 200717 yr by Jasonwr6000
October 16, 200717 yr :ygbudgie: Hi there and welcome to the BBC forum. Yes, you are correct in that budgies need wider cages rather than the circular high cages as they sure aren't helicopters!! Please check out our FAQ section and you will find cage information, nutrition information and so much more! Some pet shop employees know little to nothing so glad you had the foresight to check in here. :bluebudgie:
October 16, 200717 yr Hi Jason, I am so glad that not everyone listens to so called 'advice' from some pet stores. Space wise it is easier for them to stock tall cages, rather than wide ones. The minimum cage size for a single budgie is a 45 X 45 X 45 cm square cage (18 X 18 X 18cm), 60cm wide (24inches) is better. 2 or more budgies need a cage at least 80 – 100cm wide (32 – 40 inches) so they have room to fly from side to side. October 16, 200717 yr If you are after a budget cage that is a great size, you might want to look at something like this: The dimensions are 18"x18"x30"w so it's a good size for 2 budgies, wide rather than tall, and not too big indoors. You can get stands for this style cage easily too. Most pet shops i've visited in a few places in Canberra, Victoria and NSW stock them as flight/breeder cages for around about $60 so i assume they're easily available around other places in Australia. I know you can get them on eBay too. My one did a great job with my two boys while i was using it (i have a larger cage now), now it comes in if i need a quarantine cage.
October 16, 200717 yr The cage size I'd recomend for 2 budgies if you dont' want to get a larger cage would be at minimum 18 x 18 x30wide... here is one I use for when I need to seperate out 1-2 budgies from my larger flight cage. an 18 x 18 x 30 cage:
