I've Bought More Budgies!

Featured Replies

I went to the shop to get my mother a zebra finch and spotted this pair of budgies that I just had to have - that's definitely the last pair I told hubby.....(Laughing out loud)

Not sure what they are but maybe the cock is white with cinnamon wings and beautiful purple patches on his cheeks and the hen is maybe a blue spangle opaline pied (don't laugh at my descriptions I'm just learning)

Is this a good color combination to breed from?

How Much Did They Cost?

Personally they both looks like hens to me.

You have an

Opaline Dominant Pied Skyblue Hen

Lacewing Hen ( markings of the head, wings, and tail show up as a light cinnamon color and the cheek patches are pale violet. The eyes are red/pink)

As for breeding the 2 if they are the opposite sex I would try and get more information about them to make sure they are not sibling. Many birds that are in the same pet shop at the same time are siblings. This would be my concern. As to breed them together (if they were not related) I don't know if that would improve the lines of the budgie at all...I would leave them up to the breeders here.

Lacewing is a combo of ino and cinnamon which are both sex-linked genes. If this a hen and she was bred to him all the boys would be split for the 2 genes but you would not get an visuals. You would need to breed the hen with another one like her to get the same babies or a male that is split for ino & cinnamon. If it was a male then you would have a 50% chance of ino or cinnamon babies they would all be hens and a possible change of another lacewing too. (If I am wrong I know someone will correct the details)

If it has`nt got plum eyes, its not alace wing & it will be a hen.If its got plum eyes its a cock. The dominit

Oh yeah Denise…I tell myself that also…until I see another great bird…best of luck with your promise he he he…

I agree with the others on the hen she is an Opaline Dominant Pied Spangle & even though it's hard to be positive from that photo I think the Lacewing is a cock. If so if he was mated with her, because the Lacewing is sex-linked you will get Lacewing hens. All other colours will be cocks split to Lacewing & Opaline. All young will be Blue series birds. There can be other mutations depending on what the Lacewing cock especially is split for & to a lesser extent the hen. I don't think the Lacewing could be too closely related to the hen, as to get a Lacewing cock you have to have a Lacewing hen mated to either a Lacewing cock or a cock split for Lacewing. If the cock was an Opaline split Lacewing it could happen that the hen is a sister.

They are not related they had records of which birds come from which breeders through their leg rings. I'm not breeding to improve the lines just to increase the number of birds I have.

I sooooo love your cinnamon. :bluebudgie: If I send a postage stamp and a cheque, will you send him over? :(Laughing out loud):
