Posted October 15, 200717 yr I did intend to wait till January to pair up my birds but I have noticed in the last week or so how dark their ceres were and this to me tells me they are ready to breed NOW! So yesterday I took the whole afternoon pairing them up and placing them in their breeding cabinets with the cuttlefish, fresh fruit and veg etc etc. One pair took one look at the nesting box and went straight into it - so that's a good sign!! Hopefully I will reporting the arrival of eggs very soon!!!
October 15, 200717 yr There are signs that all the breeding budgies want to get down to it quickly this season. They are saying we will have a hot summer and the budgies know this and are raring to go earlier because of it.

My Major Mitchells were the first ones to breed this season, they started in early September quickly followed by the Princesses so by the time the really hot weather arrives the chicks will have left the nest.
October 15, 200717 yr Amazing. The word out in show breeding circles is that Hens are getting the chicks out of the nest earlier so they can get the next round of breeding over and done with before Summer really hits.
October 15, 200717 yr Breeding season for us in Qld started just after the nationals. I have pairs on their second round and some that have had only one or two chicks on their 3rd round. Breeding season will be over in 14 - 16 weeks.

October 15, 200717 yr They may be on there 3rd round. But they may of only feed a chick or 2 & the rest of the eggs fostered out.If they are a top breeding pair.
October 15, 200717 yr Like Macka has said, some may have had small batches, but there is lots of variation in Budgies some are “stuffed” after one batch others even after three batches look still great & feeding well, mostly the accepted thing is two batches, but you can use your own discretion especially if you have a really good pair that is breeding great chicks for showing or some other reason. And then you can foster chicks from good birds so that they don’t have it too hard. In my experience the hardest thing is to stop birds, most of mine have eggs before the last chick from the previous batch has left the nest, if I want to stop them often I remove the hen just before she would lay & let Dad finish off.
