Posted October 14, 200717 yr Hi Everyone, At the moment all of my birds are in one big avairy. What I want to do is take either the non breeding hens or the non breeding cocks out and put them in another avairy by themselves. Some of the hens (like the one that is having trouble raising chicks) is a bit on the young side, so I thought they really need to be seperated where there is no boxes and temptation. At the moment I have more males than females so I didn't know which would be better to take out. If I leave the hens in with the breeding birds would they try to steal boxes/chicks.... or would I be better to take them out and leave all the boys in with the breeding birds? Thanks Sandy
October 14, 200717 yr Sandy,You have 15 budgie,I don`t know how big the cage is.If you have another cage that will hold 13 birds.Put them in that cage & let the breeding pair rear the chicks in the cage they are all ready in.It is best if you are going to breed budgie, its best to pair them up in a breeding cage by themselves.Avery breeding is in the to hard basket.
October 14, 200717 yr Author Oh, I agree totally, but at the moment this is what I have. We have 3 - 4ft x 4ft x 6ft avairies. Two have been joined together and opened up so that the birds can fly around. The third one is seperate which is were I want to put the other birds. I have 3 pairs of breeding birds at the moment. One pair has 3 chicks, the other 2 pairs are sitting on eggs. So I wanted to get the other non breeding birds out of there. I also have the young YF pied hen (I think that's what she is) that I've had separated as she keeps getting picked on when I put her with the other pairs. Sandy
